Nifty blog… go read
random ass questions….
1. Does it bother you to hear about other readers, reviewers or authors getting ARC’s? Why? Why Not?
I have had this conversation a few times, about people gloating about getting ARC’s and the feelings that may cause. I generally don’t gloat but I have at times.
And there are quite a few books I don’t blog about.
BUT I do include ARC’s in my NEW Book! posts. Is that bad? Should I not? What is your take on it?
Oh, I get mad jealous when I read about others getting ARCs or reading reviews of them. Especially if they’re JR Ward ARCs. LOL. But good for them for getting their hands on them. It actually heightens my anticipation for books I was already looking forward to. And since I’m so thrifty, I depend on reviews a lot to help me in my buying choices, so I like to hear about things in advance. Even if it’s vague or spoiler free.
I second Devon’s JRW ARC envy. I don’t mind the gloating. I’d gloat, too, if I could get my hands on one! I would possibly scratch a stranger’s eye out for Nalini Singh and Eloisa James ARCs. The rest, I can wait for in the bookstore. I do love the feeling of holding a brand new, eagerly anticipated book in my hands.
I am the same as Devon. It doesn’t bother me that other people have them, just that I want them too!! LOL!!
As for whether you should gloat or not…well…I probably would!
I gloat because I’m mean like that.
Also, when are you going to get that cool thing that will get your website to email to me all comments to posts I comment on?
Yep, I’m jealous but I also like to hear about books that are coming up that other readers have already had the chance to read. Afterall, I’m pretty sure it was you that turned my into a Ward fanatic (okay, I’m much more sane in the fandom).
I also know that after the first ARC by an author you would still have to wait the amount of time I wait for a book (I’m assuming). I doubt you have three Ward ARCs of books coming out (you better not ;)) so in general, I have the jealousy but then I get real 😉
And yes, blog about books that you have read and loved even when they are months away from being released – just let me know it’s months or I’m at the bookstore wondering why they have once again let me down.

I never gloat about getting arcs, mostly because I’m so crap at reviewing them once I do get them. I feel too guilty to gloat knowing how long it takes me to post reviews.
It doesn’t bother me when others gloat though.
I’ve had some green eyed moments, but I get over them, just because you get them sooner doesn’t mean you don’t wait just as long as us lowly readers between books.
I get jealous of you when you get ARCs of authors I want. 🙂
But naaah… I try not to gloat. Hard not to “I’m speshul, I’m speshul!” but I try hard to suppress it.
I read that blog article, Syb. You’re the patron saint of lost authors. 🙂
I don’t get ARCs, so no gloating for me. But I don’t generally get jealous of other people getting ARCs and gloating.
The only thing that irritates me is when a review based on an ARC is posted weeks and weeks before the book is released — that’s just being a heartless bitch, making the rest of us wait til it comes out. A week or so before? Not so far in the future that it seems mean.
1. Does it bother you to hear about other readers, reviewers or authors getting ARC’s? Why? Why Not?
Nope. It doesn’t bother me at all. ;o)
Thanks for the link to the RTB column. Yep, definitely interesting and worth thinking about. I don’t think anybody should feel obligated to buy anything. However, if you’re a faithful reader of one of the trends that rise and fall, like historical, if you want to keep getting historicals, supporting the authors that write them by buying new might be worth considering.
It seems as if everyone in blog land seems to be able to get ARC’s from authors. That’s almost unheard of if you are a reader and not a paid reviewer. I’m happy for my fellow readers who get them and gloat away, like many have said before me, it doesn’t bother me either. I get my share but I really don’t encourage it only if you are KARIN SLAUGHTER, SARAH MONETTE and CATHERINE ASARO.
I’d love to read your unpublished works, anytime of the year. Please. Pretty please.
Ok, I just did an idiot thing, I’m gonna have to change my email address. LOL. But still email me if you are one of those three authors!
LOL Keishon! want me too edit that *g*
Could ya? LOL
I get a kick out of ARCs, being the massive book geek that I am, but I never get ARC envy. But I think they’re cool, and to be honest I like getting them from TRR or seeing them float in at work. But envy? Not really. My list of “OMG I LURVE YOU!” authors is very, very small. For instance, I’d love to be on Tess Gerritsen’s ARC list, but since I tend to camp outside of Borders on her laydown dates it’s not vital 🙂
