Earlier this week I posted on Myspace, an online message board, the LSB Forum and Southern Fried Chicas looking for bisexual and bi-curious women willing to give me anecdotes about their experiences.
I got two replies from the message board–one a phone number and an invitation for a personal interview. Not exactly what I had in mind but I’m really surprised that out here in RomanceLandia there’s not at least one bisexual woman. The whole experience made me think, which isn’t really that hard to do. So I posted a question on the LSB Board about bisexual erotica and the market for it–probably a question I posed incorrectly. I should have asked about FFM threesomes instead but again I was looking for bisexuals and that thinking thing happened.
Anyway, I’ve written MFM threesomes and FFM threesomes, which apparently are a bit scarce. Writing FFM threesomes isn’t necessarily about being bisexual or hetero or poly or whatever, it’s about writing women who are comfortable with their own bodies and sexually confident. Matter of fact, in Kink, which is actually about swinging, the entire story is written from the hero’s POV, including the threesome and the hero is fully aware that if he weren’t there, the two ladies in question would still be going at it. 🙂 Does it forward the plot? Absolutely. (Ok well, I think so).
But the bigger question is why don’t we see more FFM threesomes? I think I figured it out (and I’m swiping my reply from the one I posted at Sarah’s). For the most part erotica and erotic romance readers are here for the fantasy–can we agree on that? And apparently, for the most part FFM threesomes isn’t part of their fantasy. Or is it? You tell me.
**Amie Stuart has three book coming out from Aphrodisia: HANDS ON ~ June 07, Kink (in the BUILT Antho) ~ August 07 and NAILED ~ early 2008**
I think, for the most part, the FFM fantasies just aren’t as prevalent. If they don’t sell as well, there won’t be as many published.
My personal tastes, FFM or MMF doesn’t work as well. If I’m reading a menage, I want MFM.
Does it forward the plot? Absolutely. (Ok well, I think so).
Definitely. 🙂
I don’t have a problem reading any of them. Execution. If the author’s done a good job with the writing, I am THERE.
I think most heterosexual females have (or are presumed to have) fantasies about having two men at once, which may explain the popularity of that particular threesome.
But I also think that, as erotica becomes more accepted, we’ll be seeing a lot more of the FFM variety.
I tend to shy away from both types of books, but I know it’s a personal preference thing. *g8
LOL I guess Raine oughta know cuz she won’t let me get away with being a lazy writer–to much anyway.
Shiloh my bad…that should have been MFM–that’s what I get when I let my fingers do the walking for me.
Jordan…You Puritan! kidding hon…KIDDING! Raine’s the puritan. 😀
