Or in Karens case the romance blues… something different that I got in the mail yesterday and went – wow this looks good….
Dirty Blonde by Lisa Scottoline
Cate Fante is strong and smart, but when she gets appointed a federal judge, even she wonders whether she can do the job justice. After all, a job described in the United States Constitution would intimidate anybody. She’s only in her thirties, so she feels like she’s joining the world’s most exclusive retirement village. And she worries inwardly that she only looks the part, in a designer suit donned like overpriced armor.
But Cate keeps her doubts a secret. And, as it happens, much else. For she leads a dark, double life that she hides from everyone, even her best friend.
Then a high-profile case in her courtroom explodes into a shocking murder-suicide, and it blasts her cover wide open. Overnight, the tabloids tell her secrets, her boyfriend dumps her, and her new career hangs in tatters. But Cate’s troubles are only beginning. An enemy no one anticipated sends her running for her life-embarking on a journey that begins in the mystery of her childhood, where she first learned to lie. She’ll have to fight her way back to the truth, or die trying.
This comes out in MM on January 31st. It is thriller and has a kick ass first chapter – you can read it here.
Since I haven’t read thrillers in ages and ages, can anyone tell me anything about Scottoline’s books? Good? Bad? eh?
On a completely different note… reading through the quotes of reviews from authors, magazines and reviewers… I seriously wonder why in the hell she has a Harriet Klausner quote on her site. Hell Nora Roberts says the book rocks. (that made me giggle) I would so pick that over a Klausner quote.
To be honest, I have put down books with quotes by her (Klausner not Roberts). I was really bad about it when I first started reading romance. I figured if all you had to put in your book was Harriets view the book had to bite. What? I am getting better. Anyhoo… anyone who has read this (it came out in Hard Cover and was a NY Times best seller, someone here has got to have read it!) what did you think?
And would it be wrong of me to ask if it ends well… like the main characters have a pulse and IF there is a lurve story it has hope. WHAT?!? stop looking at me like that cece.
Like what? *blinkblink*
I’ve never read her (which is weird because I love suspense/thrillers) but my cousin loves her stuff (and she loves suspense/thrillers too 😀 )
I’ve read one book by her which I thought was pretty good. I’ve always been attracted to her books but just haven’t got to them yet really.
Never even heard of her, but she’s just gone on my next round of Amazon orders! Can you believe I haven’t bought a book in almost two weeks? That’s some kind of record for me.
I really liked the bit at the end of the firts chapter, I hope she turns out to be a raving ho. Ho’s posing as judges are much more fun dontcha think?
This is apart of a series, I think. I haven’t read her either. I have the first book ready to go. Sometimes, I really just want to dive right into them but I heard that there is a love interest.
*waveshand* I’ve read it! In MM paperback last month. You mean it’s not supposed to have been released yet? How’d that happen?
The set up and first half is really good. Don’t want to spoil it, but her double life is seriously erm.. double, and the way it gets her into trouble and makes her behave, at least initially, is pretty believable if you accept the initial premise. In this way, it’s a bit darker than her usual stuff.
But I thought that after setting up such a morally ambiguous character, and watching everything around her fall apart, the ending was too neat and easy.
And btw if it is part of a series, I didn’t notice it or miss not reading the first one.
PS. I used to do the same with books that only had HK quotes on the cover, after a dreadful experience with a Zebra-or-other. My view was that if that was the only positive bit of a review the publisher found… These days I’ve been burned too often to do anything but ignore all cover quotes.
Karen if you check amazon the first review from publishers weekly (I think) tells ya a lil about her.
Keishon, I don’t think this one is apart of the series. The review I mentioned above said it is a stand alone and her book list on her site doesn’t have it marked. Do you know what series it was in?
EAP! you bad girl! I am not sure how you got your hands on it *g*. Aren’t you out of the US? Maybe it released other places earlier? No clue I just put what the info sheet said.
cece and marg do tell if you read it and like it 😉
will do–she’s one of those I keep meaning to pick up, someday. O’course I just picked up a whole stack today so it could be a while. LOL
