Tell me what you want, what cha really really want

BookshelfNora Roberts raised a good point in her comment below

If I could rub a lamp and have one wish granted during these review/blog/reader/writer discussions it would be that the posters who tend to lump all writers together as if we were The Borg remember, we’re separate, individual and will have varying opinions–and levels of those opinions–on pretty much every issue. I mean that, sincerely, when praise or criticism is expressed.

My letter was styled after the one on RtB but I did edit to add the word some in front of authors. Just as one blogger doesn’t speak for us all, it shouldn’t be implied one author-to-be speaks for all authors. I don’t see anything wrong with authors being drawn to pollyanna style of blog/websites. And agree with what Teresa Medeiros states in the RtB comments:

My honest theory is that writers need to stay away from almost all review sites on the internet.

duckie xmasSo did santa treat you well? Any new books? Come on you know you wanna tell us!

Oddly enough my family kept telling me I was hard to buy for and I kept saying… books! Or Gift Cards for Books! And I only ended up with one $50 B&N gift card and four books. And many returns but hey what do you do… it is the thought that counts right?

Bella, Bella, Bella

I do understand you want to be a writer when you grow up. Since you may need these author peeps or their publishers it has always seemed you didn’t want to really review the books. Bella, I think that is fabulous because fangirls need a home too.

But I do think it was a good idea for you to explain in detail to anyone who didn’t understand (well at least the ones who read RtB) you don’t post ethical literary criticism of romance fiction but post happy, happy, joy, joy, rah, rah “Reader’s Opinions” and not reviews. Not to say that is bad of course, I think there is room for all types of blogs (not only the detailed review blogs). And as one can see by reading the comments on RtB, some authors will always respond to kissass positive people.

Maybe we should find a cover model to get his deep thoughts on the matter. I mean we wouldn’t want to set up rules for every person in blogland without some input from others. I mean hell, people might think it is okay for them to do whatever they want.

Next thing you know heroines won’t be virgins, heroes will be rakes that have sex or the first wife will not be a fucknut but a good person the hero really loved. And then who knows what would happen, readers might think they can make up their own minds! Or le gasp, decide what they want to buy for themselves.

They may even figure out the deep dark secret of the internet. You know… that it is all opinion.

a real name, never watched talk soup, not a wanna be author and nary an ass kissed reader… so really what do I know

feel free to make up your own mind… What do you think? Should we start to censor free thought and turn romanceblogland into pollyannaville?

Ebuzz: Consumed by Moira McTark

December 29, 2006

consumedConsumed by Moira McTark (who needs to have her author info page done at samhain)

The only thing stronger than Amber Grayson and Brian Matther’s loathing for each other, is their all consuming lust.

Amber Grayson’s dates never seem to measure up. That is, until Brian Matthers—the boy from high school who sparked such intense longing in her, no other man could compare—returns to her life.

When Amber and Brian come together, their powerful chemistry overwhelms them both, leading them to fall hard and fast. But betrayals are easy to believe when things seem too good to be true, and the romance ends as fast as it starts.

Only Brian and Amber have had a taste of the heat between them, and a taste isn’t nearly enough. When the two come together, tempers flare and barbs fly, and Brian quickly discovers that the only thing more intense than Amber’s wrath is her passion.

Embarking on a relationship that is strictly sexual and gratifies their most torrid fantasies, they soon find that abiding by the unspoken rule of strictly sex proves more challenging than either of them expected.

This book has a horrid cheesy cover and a bad summary. In fact I completely past it over after reading the summary thinking, oh yay another I love you, I hate you, lets fuck, I still hate you plot. Then while looking for other books to buy because all I had in my cart was about 3 bucks… I read the excerpt.

I liked the authors writing and was leaning toward getting it when I hit this line.

“Brian, you’ll have to excuse me, I had such a terrible crush on you in high school. I’m standing here making a complete jackass out of myself.”

I was hooked and read the book right away. Read more

contJust a few notes….

My new domain is www.redwyne.com. Same blogger, same subjects, same rants and duckieness… just new domain.

And it is wordpress, which I am hoping won’t give me as much grief as blogger. And also means I have no clue as to what I am doing. So really same ol same ol *g*.

You will find funny fonts on older posts and some broken links which jane we is are working on. The cut function I had much love for is no more. And I don’t think there is a replacement in wordpress. Yes I know… lets bow our heads for a moment of silence. So unless someone makes one (which would fucking rock) or points me in the direction of a plugin (would equally rock) the only option is the MORE (le gasp 1! cut) per post.

Until I take out the html in older posts, where there were cuts (many in some of them), they might look a lil odd. (cut=link you clicked on to get more of my rambling)

I haven’t figured out what I am going to do with the index of reviews because I think it will not be needed once I wrap my arms around what categories and tags do. All in all things should be normal (for me) around here in a few weeks… or years… or something.

Is it just me….

Repeat After Me

December 27, 2006

BookshelfHave you ever stopped to listen to yourself speak? If you are like me, you use the word ‘that’ often. And I have noticed that people often use that in their writting when they don’t need it or when it should be ‘which’. That is way annoying. And I don’t understand how an editor doesn’t catch… that.

Something else that will jerk me out of a story is when the same word is used two or three times in a paragraph. Make it the same phrase and all I can think is eek bad editing.

Is that something editors even look at and request the author change? Or is that one of those things they just change. I understand you don’t want to go thesaurus happy but a three sentence paragraph shouldn’t have quirk twice, should it? Or is that just a quirk of mine?

Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight
