Kaitlyn‘s review of The Last Legacy (World of the Narrows, Book 3) by Adrienne Young
Young Adult published by Wednesday Books 7 Sep 21

This is a love letter to Adrienne Young’s writing. You can tell the amount of work and effort that goes into her books. I really feel as if I am transported into the world of the Narrows and the Unnamed Sea each time I pick up one of her books.

This story doesn’t follow Fable, but Bryn Roth as she returns home to Bastian to take up her place among the ruthless family. I was wary, because the little we had seen of the Roths in Namesake didn’t really endear me to them. But the characters and family aspect pulled me in and I don’t know why I doubted Young.

While I love learning about the characters and city, the first half didn’t have me fully invested. Mid way through things pick up and I was eagerly devouring the book to see what would happen next. I love Bryn and how she learns to make her own destiny. Honestly, I wish this had a sequel so we could see what adventures Bryn and Ezra embark on next.

I cannot emphasize enough how excited I am to go back to the Narrows and learn about Fable’s father Saint in the prequel. Until then, I thankfully still have a few more Young books to binge!

Grade: B

Summary:

When a letter from her uncle Henrik arrives on Bryn Roth’s eighteenth birthday, summoning her back to Bastian, Bryn is eager to prove herself and finally take her place in her long-lost family.

Henrik has plans for Bryn, but she must win everyone’s trust if she wants to hold any power in the delicate architecture of the family. It doesn’t take long for her to see that the Roths are entangled in shadows. Despite their growing influence in upscale Bastian, their hands are still in the kind of dirty business that got Bryn’s parents killed years ago. With a forbidden romance to contend with and dangerous work ahead, the cost of being accepted into the Roths may be more than Bryn can pay.
