Veena’s review of Dane’s Mark (Breeds, Book 33) by Lora Leigh
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 06 Feb 24

There’s been a long gap in this series, so when a new book showed up, it definitely piqued my interest. The first Leo and his son Dane are Breed royalty, so any mate of Dane’s will be smarter, faster, and an alpha in her own right? Or will she?

Katy Chavos is a misfit in the community where she grew up, labeled as a whore’s daughter. Working in a coffee shop at night and putting herself through university, she is determined to better herself. The only chink in her armor is her feelings for Dane, who makes her feel as though she is so far beneath him to notice, and yet notice he does.  One wonders what her life would have been like if not for the nearly mad man who haunted the coffee shop, who rescues her and three other girls to give them purpose and a future.

Confident and successful, her next meeting with Dane is on a more equal footing, and yet he has the uncanny ability to recall the lovestruck girl.  Even after they become lovers, they both resist the idea that they might be mates, and her father definitely is not enamored of her as his eldest son’s mate.
The plot thickens and the secrets that emerge are unbelievable.
The series was becoming a bit predictable before the gap, but this book creates a new excitement and an injection of a new cast of characters with explosive world events. What’s next?

Grade: A

Summary:

A decade ago Katy Chavos was a proud misfit who had her heart broken, crushed by a man who drew her close with one breath and pulled away the next. He left a mark she’s done everything in her power to erase. But when Katy’s job brings her back to the hometown she couldn’t wait to escape, seeing Dane again awakens something inside her that won’t be tamed….

Dane Vanderale isn’t like other Breeds. As a hybrid he’s stronger, more primal, and more determined to hide it. He’s also certain that Katy is not his mate—not that that stops him from wanting her with every part of his soul. He knows he hurt her deeply and he intends to make things right, but she is dead set on keeping him at arm’s length.

Despite their painful history, Katy can’t deny the intense attraction she still feels for Dane. And before long, it will be impossible for either to deny the truth that has been in front of them all along….
