Veena’s review of Dragon Arisen (Dragon Kings) by Donna Grant
Fantasy Romance published by D.L. Grant LLC 13 Jun 23

Who or what is Lotti? The answer to these questions ties up so many lose ends, even those you didn’t know existed in the Dark universe.  What a page turner this book is. Possibly one of the more exciting books in the series.

Alisdair has been asleep for centuries. Now awake in response to the King of King’s call, he is on the planet of Zora trying to deal with the reality of seeing all the dragons they had sent over the dragon bridge safe but no friends of theirs.  His friend Merrill is missing and not responding to any attempts at communication. Determined to at least rescue Merrill, he sets off on his own, only to run into an abandoned baby and Lotti.

Lotti has led a hard life, staying hidden and on the run constantly. The one reality of her life is that the Dragon Kings are to be feared.  When she finds that Alisdair is a Dragon King, she knows she has to get away from him and his friends, and yet she finds herself guiding him into Stonemere, the city that she’s been taught never to enter.

Stonemere holds a lot of secrets.  Some of them are revealed and possibly more to come in future books.  However, the big secrets come about when Lotti’s ancestry is revealed to the readers, along with the truths behind the humans coming to earth, the others, and so many additional facts that I as a reader didn’t even know I had questions about.

While the story itself can be read as a standalone, all the secrets revealed, etc. will not mean much unless you’ve been reading both the Dark Kings series as well as the Reaper series, since they are about to intersect big time here.

Grade:  A

Summary:

You have to burn before you can rise.

Handsome. Commanding. Powerful. Alasdair isn’t a Dragon King to sit and wait. His carefully laid plans dissolve when he comes upon an enchanting woman. Lotti’s beauty beguiles him, her spirit intrigues him. The longer he’s with her, the more mysteries he uncovers. And the more his passion grows. He never expects she will lead him into the heart of Stonemore —while ensnaring his at the same time. With their enemies closing in, Alasdair will do anything to protect the woman he’s destined to love.

If there’s one thing Lotti knows, it’s that she’s a danger to others. She keeps her distance. Always. But all that changes when she lands in a difficult situation…with a gorgeous, seductive man. Every choice somehow leads her straight back to Alasdair. She can’t ignore his sexual magnetism or the undeniable desire between them. Their journey unravels everything she knew about herself to reveal a carefully constructed fallacy. Yet, she discovers an inner strength she didn’t know she had. But is her yearning for Alasdair worth the risk for them both?
