Veena’s review of Don’t Back Down by Sharon Sala
Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 07 Mar 23

He was shipping out on a tour of duty, and she was in between assignments. A chance encounter in a bar and an unforgettable night with no questions asked. Neither forgot the other, but years and a lot of living on both their parts passed before they found themselves unexpectedly face to face again.

Cameron Pope is settling down in the house where he grew up in a remote part of Kentucky, when his sister is attacked and his niece kidnapped. Fortunately, Cameron and his furry companion are able to track the kidnapper and rescue his niece. It turns out that there is quite the human trafficking ring operating in this remote area in Kentucky, and there are several suspects in the FBI’s crosshairs. The Bureau dispatches one of their best undercover agents to work with Cameron to track down and stop the gang. Nature sure works in unexpected ways to bring people together when nothing else would work.

Rusty and Cameron soon pick up their relationship where they had left off, plus they’ve got some bodies racking up. Seems like the gang is trying to tidy up loose ends and loose lips. The story moves fast with Cameron and Rusty being able to track down some unexpected leads. Do the two of them have a future in this remote corner of the country, once the case is solved?

This is a romantic suspense with a happy ending, and I really enjoyed how it all came together. Definitely a winner.

Grade: A

Summary:

He barely has time to catch his breath…

Army veteran Cameron Pope arrives back in Jubilee, Kentucky, for the first time in years. He barely has time to catch his breath when he becomes embroiled in a race of life or death for his little niece and a deadly hunt for the human traffickers who are destroying the peace of his mountain town. When he’s reunited with Rusty Caldwell—a woman from his past he’s never stopped thinking about—he wants to believe they can finally be together. But Rusty belongs to one of the rich families in Jubilee—the same rich folks who scorn the rural families living on the surrounding mountainside. Cameron and Rusty will have to find a way to end the feuding and take down the human trafficking ring if they’re to have any chance at happiness.
