Kaitlyn‘s review of Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber
Young Adult published by Flatiron Books 28 Sep 21

Jacks, you stole the show and my heart. I already loved him, but this strengthened that love immensely. This book has all the perfect fairytale vibes. It is so magical, and I never wanted to put it down. I love the Magnificent North and how whimsical everything is. This world’s even more fun than Caraval. and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

It is definitely the fairytale feelings that had me so mesmerized. It’s hard to explain, just read this if you haven’t yet and you’ll totally get it. The only reason this isn’t 5 stars for me is because Evangeline, while a strong and an admirable FMC, lacks the motivation I would have liked to see.

I think her priorities are changing, though, and it seems like she’ll be driven by other factors moving forward. I’m so ready for her character growth and for her to fall for a certain blonde psychopath. I know, who am I rooting for – the blonde once again?

Grade: B+

Summary:

For as long as she can remember, Evangeline Fox has believed in true love and happy endings . . . until she learns that the love of her life will marry another.

Desperate to stop the wedding and to heal her wounded heart, Evangeline strikes a deal with the charismatic, but wicked, Prince of Hearts. In exchange for his help, he asks for three kisses, to be given at the time and place of his choosing.

But after Evangeline’s first promised kiss, she learns that bargaining with an immortal is a dangerous game — and that the Prince of Hearts wants far more from her than she’d pledged. He has plans for Evangeline, plans that will either end in the greatest happily ever after, or the most exquisite tragedy.
