Veena’s review of Dark Alpha’s Fury (The Reapers, Book 16) by Donna Grant
Romantic Fantasy published by DL Grant LLC 07Mar 23

After Xaneth was captured and tortured by the Queen of the Fae, he’s a changed man. He has become a one-man destroyer and evil cannot escape his reach.  He yearns for the soft touch that Aisling represents in his life but does not feel he deserves it. Now he’s become the target of the evil others.  Hasn’t Xaneth paid enough? Does he not deserve some form of happiness? Read on to find what happens and how it all comes together.

Aisling is a reaper. Her story that brought her to death’s attention and an offer to become a reaper is heart rending.  Can she save Xaneth and bring him some love and peace? She’s definitely tuned to his signature and can find him just as he can find her. Now she has come to the attention of the leader of the Others, as someone who can possibly be exploited to bring Xaneth to heel.

As the two of them battle enemies, real and imagined, they have to figure out if they have a future together. The Dragon Kings play a large role in supporting Xaneth and the reapers battle the evil that is poised to destroy Earth.

This is a great story, but I did find both Aisling and Xaneth – particularly Xaneth – a bit too tortured and resistant to love. I have enjoyed this series, though, and I’m sure considering how the different series in the Dark Universe seem to converge, we will see these characters again.

Grade: B

Summary:

There is no escaping the Reapers—or me. If you succumb to evil, you will be judged. And we will come for you…

I’ve known the torment of being trapped, of battling monsters—both outside and within. But I’ve also known the peace and completeness of holding the one I was meant for in my arms. Unfortunately, she’s not intended for me. I am destined for one thing and one thing only: eradicating the evil that plagues our world. Once I deal with my nemesis, maybe I can finally rest. Even if it means my soul being reaped by the strong, beautiful, and utterly captivating woman who makes my heart beat like no other. But I’m not sure even that is possible. Because I am no longer merely a Fae. I am something else altogether.
