Kaitlyn‘s review of Caraval Series by Stephanie Garber
Young Adult Fantasy published by Flatiron Books 2017-2019

This series was a wild ride. It started off as this fun little carnival game and then morphed into this crazy world that was all over the place. I loved all the craziness and magic though.

The first book is super secretive and confusing and I had no idea what was going on. This just made me want to read faster and get answers. The second and third books are a little easier to follow and I’m glad when the POV toggled between the sisters.

Each of these books is a solid four stars and I really enjoyed the journey. Only took off a star because sometimes the sisters got on my nerves, especially with all the secrets. I loved the magical men in this series, though. Legend, Julian, and Jacks all get five stars from me. I cannot wait to dive into Once Upon a Broken Heart now and get more Jacks in my life!

Caravalpublished 31 Jan 17

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their powerful and cruel father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the far-away, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.

But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to attend. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, and her sister disappears forever.
