Kaitlyn‘s review of Bow Before the Elf Queen by J.M. Kearl
Paranormal/Fantasy Romance published by J.M. Kearl 26 Apr 22

Oh, my god. This is phenomenal. Hands down one of my favorite fantasies. I saw a few people here at Instagram had read this book, and needed something to read on a plane ride. So I downloaded this from KU without really knowing anything, except it’s a fantasy. And, boy, did it not disappoint. This is one of my favorite books now and I need the sequel yesterday!!

Layala was born a mage, which is incredibly rare nowadays. Because of this, she was marked at birth to be used by the Elvin King and married off to the Prince, her life never her own. Desperate, her mother hides her among the humans to be raised as a weapon to kill the King and Prince one day and take back her life. Except when the time comes, the Prince is nothing like she expected.

If you love any of the following:
-enemies to lovers
-fated mates
-badass FMC’s
-hot, swoon worthy MMC’s
-romantasy filled with witty banter
-a sprinkling of epic battles

Then run, don’t walk, to read this book. It ends on a major cliffhanger, but thankfully the sequel is set to be released in October. Can’t recommend this enough to my fellow fantasy lovers. 🖤

PS – I don’t think KU is actually going to save me any money. When I finish reading, I immediately buy the physical copy. 😂 But, come on, look at how pretty this is! 😍

Grade: A

Summary:

In hiding all her life, Layala prepares for the day the wicked High Elf King Thane will come to steal her— his powerful mate. She trains to take her revenge for the wrongful execution of her parents, who died for her freedom.
Now that day has come, forcing her to come face-to-face with what she’s hidden from: a dangerous, dark-haired, warrior king determined to marry her.
After she’s shoved into a black carriage pulled by six ominous steeds, Layala makes plans to take her captors’ lives and free herself…
…but Thane has a secret that makes it impossible for Layala to slay him. She has an even darker truth that makes loving her forbidden, no matter how much Thane wants to touch.
