Maddie and Deke were high school sweethearts, but a future wasn’t in the cards for them. So Deke made sure he walked away from their relationship before it crashed and burned. Then Maddie was all set to show him what he had lost but walked away without rubbing his face in it all, when she found he was recovering poorly from a recent bout of torture as a POW. Now seventeen years later at the pinnacle of success that Deke had envisioned for her, she’s in trouble. Maddie turns to the one person whom she knows will help her unconditionally. Deke views her entrance into his life again as the sign that it is finally their time and is determined to win her. Or will events conspire to keep them apart?
Deke puts together an elite team of Mackay Taggart operatives and heads off to California to find and neutralize the threats to Maddie and his country. Of course, this gives their never-cold chemistry a chance to heat up and Deke is determined to take full advantage of all that he has learned as a sexual dominant to bind Maddie to him. It’s interesting that while he may dominate her sexually, Maddie is definitely determined to stand on her own and not have a repeat of him walking away from her.
The story moves fast, especially since readers get a chance to catch a glimpse of what the bad guys are planning, though there are wheels within wheels and a bunch of surprises are headed toward both the readers and the good guys. The shenanigans between the MT team are fun, even as readers follow the fast-paced suspense story with bated breath.
This is a great addition to the Mackay Taggart series, and we get to meet and catch up with some of the characters from the series. The ending is somewhat of a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

As Maddie and Deke begin to uncover her boss’s secrets, they can’t deny the chemistry that has reignited. But before they can explore the connection growing between them, they must survive the deadly forces hunting them down.
