Book CoverSandy M’s review of Bishop’s Knight (Endgame Trilogy, Book 1) by Katie Reus
Romantic Suspense published by KR Press 9 Jul 19

I guess I’ve been reading romance for so long that if an author doesn’t give me hugely sympathetic characters right off the bat, a more-than-terrific story line, and loads of romance, my interest wanes very quickly anymore. I began reading Katie Reus with her Redemption Harbor series and loved every single book. So with this new series, I was very hopeful she’d keep me fully engaged, wanting to turn the pages even after I should have closed the book to get some sleep or meet a friend or…whatever.

And that definitely happened. Evie and Dylan have a sorta past. They knew each other as kids but didn’t really interact. So meeting fairly recently, they both fell hard. However, their relationship ended when Evie’s op was over – she was a CIA agent and couldn’t stay in Miami, her hometown, after all was said and done. But then she’s back home months later when she decides to retire and her family needs help. Both of her brothers are in deep trouble, so her training will come in handy. Before she can truly get started, though, a good friend and fellow agent shows up at her door, shot and in need of some fast help.

Dylan is former military and a security expert. He still doesn’t know why Evie called it quits on their relationship. He definitely doesn’t believe her reasons she gave before she left town. Now, when she knocks on his door asking for assistance, he’s determined to make sure she doesn’t slip out of his life a second time. That’s if he can forgive her for the heartbreak that hasn’t gone away yet. But the reader can tell these two are meant to be together, so it’s best just to get settled and go along for the ride.

The story is fast paced when needed, those Black Ops skills top-notch, all the while Dylan wanting to keep Evie under protection, despite the fact she can handle herself with no problem at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the family aspect, all the Bishops getting nice page time to build up for next two books in the trilogy. I’m intrigued by both of the Bishop boys and can’t wait for their books. Evan’s book, Bishop’s Queen, is next. Not on Amazon yet, however, while it’s up for Apple, Nook, and Kobo.

Though Dylan is shattered near the end when Evie finally tells him the truth concerning their initial meeting, he’s a stand-up guy – a knight indeed. I really like these two and hope they figure somewhat prominently in the upcoming stories. As I’ve come to expect in a very short time, Ms. Reus keeps the reader engaged and happy throughout.

Grade: A

Summary:

She needs his help…

Thanks to years of government training, Evie Bishop knows how to get into places she doesn’t belong—and she’s very good at it. But years of doing black ops work burned her out so she returns home—to unexpected chaos. One of her brothers is in a coma and the other is in hiding, wanted for murder. Then a fellow operative from her past shows up shot and bleeding with news that an assassin is gunning for everyone involved with a past op. She’s forced to turn to the one man she knows she can trust—the man whose heart she broke.

But it will come with a price…

When Dylan Blackwood proposed a year ago, Evie turned him down flat and walked out of his life. He’s stunned when he finds her on his doorstep covered in someone else’s blood, needing his help. He always knew there was more to her than met the eye—that Evie was never simply the pampered society princess she wanted people to believe she was. But he never expected this. If she needs help, he’ll give it. Even if he can’t forget her betrayal. Even if he isn’t sure he can trust her. But his protection will come with a price—her heart. Before they can have a chance at a future, they’ll have to work together to take down a faceless enemy who has Evie firmly in his crosshairs.
