Contemporary Romance  published by Montlake 09 Apr 19

A random mall shooting leaves Claire traumatized and her promising tennis career in ruins and bound within the invisible boundary of the small town she lives in. Logan, as a professional photo journalist, lives for the adrenaline burst of the next big story.  “They couldn’t be more different…or more completely perfect for each other,” even though I have to say that Logan definitely rubbed me the wrong way when I first met him.

Claire has adapted to her new normal and created a successful career for herself within the boundaries that she lives her life. Her cautiously optimistic attempt to find love and happily ever after is dashed when her boyfriend dumps her in exchange for her once BFF Peyton. Now all bets off and Peyton and her brother are definitely persona non grata in Claire’s life. Imagine her disgust when she runs into Peyton’s brother Logan at her other BFF Steffie’s house. Apparently Peyton has been struggling with cancer and her brother Logan is determined to get Claire’s forgiveness to aid in his sister’s recovery.

Logan is quite manipulative, which left me struggling with the story in the beginning, but fortunately, for my perseverance, he soon redeems himself when he stops throwing his money around and focuses on Claire and gently opening up the world for her.  I love how Claire is finally able to stand up to her loving parents and show them how they’re smothering her and then for her to meet with Logan’s real estate developer dad and present her ideas for his hotel remodeling project. I really love how Claire grows as a character and a person in this story.

Logan does his own share of growing as he comes to terms with what’s important to him. A great feel good story.

Grade: B+

Summary:

They couldn’t be more different…or more completely perfect for each other.

Claire McKenna knows about loss. The bullet wound that ended her promising professional tennis career drove her to make a quiet life for herself working with fabric samples, chatting with her book group, and spending time with her parents in her sleepy coastal Connecticut hometown. Then there was the boyfriend who dumped her to pursue her adventurous childhood friend. Now, Claire’s business has hit a financial snag, but she’s up to the challenge. After all, she can survive anything. At least she thinks so…until her teen crush, Logan, returns to town with his sister, Claire’s traitorous friend.

Photographer Logan Prescott is more playboy than homebody. But his sister’s illness teaches him that there’s more to life than chasing the next thrill. Bent on helping her win Claire’s forgiveness, he turns his charm on Claire and offers her big bucks to renovate his multimillion-dollar New York City condo.

After years of playing it safe, Claire must now take some risks. The payoff could be huge, but if it all falls apart, can her heart recover from another loss?
