Book CoverVeena’s review of Ignite (Dragon Kings, Book 15) by Donna Grant
Romantic Fantasy published by St. Martin Paperbacks 30 Apr 19

Another exciting chapter as this series advances.  The forces for good and evil are readying for an epic battle.  Even as many facts long hidden come to light, enough mystery remains to keep readers chomping at the bit. This story whips up the excitement, even while bringing V and Claire together with some very interesting surprises. V has slept centuries. Awake and with his sword restored, he should be in good shape, but, unfortunately, even as he’s afraid to wield his sword, the sword itself no longer responds to him.  It’s only when he gives in to his desire for Claire, aided and manipulated by some of his fellow kings, does his sword show a spark of response.

In parallel, things are heating up between Usaeil, who has been revealed to be more dark than white, even while she still apparently reigns as the light fae queen, and the forces of good that consist of the kings, Rhi, Death, and a surprise addition on the side of light. Usaeil also has been plotting and sowing seeds of disruption, which will have long-lasting impact on the dragon kings and their soul mates.

An interesting tidbit in the last few books has been the anecdotes on the Misadventures of Dating from the secret blogger who’s not so secret anymore. The identity and the big reveal is somewhat of a letdown, but it was nice while it lasted.

Of course, there are a lot of references about Rhi and her mysterious dragon king lover and also revelations about the good and bad druid forces that are responsible for the magic that seems to be stronger than a dragon king’s magic.  I’m salivating as things seem to be falling in place for the epic showdown and the status quo is changing.

As the story heats up and appears to be heading to an inevitable confrontation, I can’t wait to see it all play out.

Grade:B

Summary:

For centuries, V has waited to awaken from his doomed sleep and reclaim his destiny. But this Dragon King―one among a legion of legendary warriors sworn to protect the human race from darkness―must first find a way to win back his sword. Wield its power. And try not to fall prey to his own illicit desires.

Claire may possess the beauty and soul of a goddess but V knows better than to mess with a mere mortal. Still, he instinctively knows that Claire is The One who can help him regain the use of his sword and restore his place at Dreagan. But if she learns the truth about who―and what―he really is, her memories of him would be erased forever. How can V love Claire truly, madly, deeply…and protect her from the forces of fire and darkness that could destroy them both?
