Book CoverSandy M’s review of Chasing Vengeance (Redemption Harbor, Book 7) by Katie Reus
Romantic Suspense published by KR Press 9 Apr 19

I have enjoyed every book in this series, so I’m sorry to see the end come. But Katie Reus has given readers a terrific ride with the men of Redemption Harbor finding their perfect partners while keeping the world safe. I am definitely looking forward to see what Ms. Reus will dive into next. I began reading her with this series and she has become a favorite in a very short period of time.

The best part of this series for me has been how the team of expert spies at Redemption Harbor Consulting work together to bring prey down. They have all become friends as they’ve taken on cases, and when one of their own is threatened, their precision and fierceness in getting to the bottom of whatever the problem is spells trouble for the bad guys. In this instance, there’s a super evil villain slinking around, trying to get at our hero, Xavier, through the woman he wants more than anything but whom he knows he can’t have.

You see, Xavier is a hitman. Sanctioned by the government and taking cases on his own, he takes care of those who deserve such an end, but he knows it’s not the most noble of occupations. That’s why he keeps distance between himself and Layla, especially because she’s just come off a relationship with a horrible man and she’s trying to start anew. But there’s something about Xavier that draws Layla and she wants more with him.

I enjoyed the back-and-forth push and pull between these two. Layla still has her backbone after her disastrous relationship, and she lets Xavier know how she feels and refuses to be beaten down again if he continues to distance himself from her. But when his past comes calling, putting her in danger, Xavier will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. And so will their team. I so enjoyed this last hurrah as they worked together to bring one slimy villain down. I also enjoyed the epilogue with Colt and Skye – very appropriate since that’s how the series began.

If you haven’t started reading this series, you should get going on it now. One of the best out there, as far as I’m concerned.

Grade: A

Summary:

Wanting her means putting a target on her back…

Layla’s taste in men runs toward the epic side of awful. With one murderous ex-fiancé already behind her, she’s attempting to start over in Redemption Harbor with the help of her bestie, Nova. And wine. Lots of wine. The very thing that helps her make another epic mistake—trying to kiss Xavier, one of her newest friends. So what if he’s sexy, funny, and has completely taken over her fantasies? Relationships and Layla don’t mix. And Xavier is clearly not interested anyway.

But it’s too late to walk away…

Any good hitman has no business forging a personal life…no matter how great the temptation. And Xavier is an exceptionally good hitman, with a long list of enemies. Even if Layla could somehow look past his profession, he’d never put her in jeopardy. But everyone has their breaking point—and when Layla accepts a date with someone else, Xavier’s possessiveness is unleashed. The greater the risk, the sweeter the reward…until Xavier’s sweet Layla is used against him by someone from his past. Now he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her from the enemy hunting her from the shadows.
