Book CoverKristie J’s review of Playing It Cool (Sydney Smoke Rugby, Book 2) by Amy Andrews
Contemporary Romance published by Entangled: Brazen 11 Jul 16

I started reading this series with this book. I like the premise of of this series. I like the pro rugby player aspect. I like the price, and I’ve always wanted to go to Australia. So until I do, I’ll have to make do with reading books set in that country.

Dexter Blake is our hero.  He and some of his teammates are checking out the crowd for hot women – something I’m sure guys have been doing back to gladiator days.  They are professional rugby players.  Dex notices one in particular, our heroine, Harper.  He notices the team reporter being quite nasty to her and he’s ticked that she would be with someone like him.  So he’s delighted to hear the jerk is her stepbrother.  In order to irritate him, Dexter asks Harper out.

She’s not the kind of girl who attracts good-looking guys, so she’s dubious – but he talks her into it and they go and have a great time.  Now, Dex isn’t looking for any kind of relationship.  He wants to focus all his energy on playing rugby, since there is an expiry date on being a pro athlete and he wants to make the most of it while he’s physically able.  But he has such a good time with Harper that he wants to see her again.  As friends, of course. Or so he tells himself.

He finds himself really wanting to see her again and makes up a rather lame reason.  And then he needs to see her again and, of course, we readers know he’s falling in love with her. She doesn’t want to fall for him either, because she’s still unsure that he really is interested.

I liked this one quite a bit and then went back to read the first book and get some more in this series.  It’s so much fun finding new authors whose books you enjoy.

Summary:

Harper Nugent might have a little extra junk in her trunk, but her stepbrother calling her out on it is the last straw… When rugby hottie, Dexter Blake, witnesses the insult, he surprises Harper by asking her out. In front of her dumbass brother. Score! Of course, she knows it’s not for reals, but Dex won’t take no for an answer.

Dexter Blake’s life revolves around rugby with one hard and fast rule: no women. Sure, his left hand is getting a workout, but he’s focused on his career for now. Then he overhears an asshat reporter belittle the curvy chick he’d been secretly ogling. What’s a guy to do but ask her out? It’s just a little revenge against a poser, and then he’ll get his head back in the game.

But the date is better than either expected. So is the next one. And the next. And the heat between them…sizzles their clothes right off.

Suddenly, this fake relationship is feeling all too real…
