Book CoverSandy M’s review of A Warriner to Tempt Her (Wild Warriners, Book 3) by Virginia Heath
Historical Romance published by Harlequin Historical 16 Jan 18

This is a lovely heart-warming story bringing together two people who need each other, despite what society thinks. The third book in a series, it reads well as a standalone, and both characters will steal your heart with nary a problem.

I’ve not read the first two books in the series, but you find out straightaway that Joe Warriner and his brothers have a hard road ahead of them in lightening their family’s blackened reputation, all caused by their grandfather and father. His two older brothers have done their part along those lines, and now it’s his turn. He does an admirable job, that’s for sure. He’s a competent and forward-thinking doctor, taking care of those less fortunate that his elite counterpart won’t touch, along with taking care of those at the infirmary his brother and sister-in-law have founded. Joe is taken with Lady Clarissa Beaumont, but he knows there’s not a chance in hell he can ever court her. Imagine his surprise when he begins to see the lady’s sister in a new light.

The infirmary is also where Lady Isabella Beaumont goes to get a sense of normalcy in her now less exciting life, after a brutal attack a year before. Doing so gets her out of the house, in contact with others, and gives her a sense of helpfulness. Working with Joe will also hopefully help her resolve her skittishness with men, something she never suffered from in her former life as a belle of the ball. Now she stands back and watches from the sidelines, but the more she learns from the doctor, the more she comes out her of shell. Which is a wonderful thing to see. Not only was her attack vicious, but most doctors of the day were horrible practitioners and Isabella went through more than any woman should ever have to.

I really enjoyed the medical aspects of this story. Ms. Heath has done her research well and given readers totally believable situations for Joe and Bella to handle, especially the smallpox epidemic headed toward their town and the way they have to fight against the town’s doctor and his antiquated and stupid ideas. The way Joe takes things slowly with Bella, understanding she has a terrible secret and waits for her to come to him about it is wonderfully done. Their growing love is steady and true.

This is definitely a book worth reading. I hope to read the other three in the series, because I know they will be just as good and moving as this one..
