Kristie J’s review of Dancer (Good Guys, Book 2) by Jamie Schlosser
Young Adult published by Amazon Digital Services 8 Dec 16
I said previously reading this author is like riding a seesaw – or teeter totter. Book 1 of the series, Trucker, was up in the air. So following that theory, this one should be a downturn. But happily that is not so, not so at all. We first meet the hero and heroine of this book when they are very young children, around six or so. They are very best friends and are brokenhearted when our hero, Colton, and his father move an hour away and Brielle is left behind. It’s a very poignant opening.
The book then picks up many years later. Colton’s best friends and brother in every sense of the word except biological with Travis from Trucker. They work together, they live together, and they hang out together. In the previous book, Colton had a girlfriend, but it wasn’t a very good relationship and at the end they broke up and Colton confessed something to Travis – he couldn’t “get it up.”
Now in this book he’s been prescribed Viagra. This is rather devastating and embarrassing to Colton. Erectile dysfunction in a 22-year-old is not a good thing. That’s peak banging time for a guy. But that changes when Travis, Angel, girlfriend to Travis, and he try out a new night spot and Colton sees a cage dancer – NOT a stripper, but a beautiful young woman who seems to be off in another world enjoying dancing. Immediately he ‘perks up,’ if you get my drift. Turns out the dancer is his childhood friend Brielle. She instantly recognizes him, but he has no idea who she really is. He manages with some effort to establish a relationship but still doesn’t have a clue for a while. When he finally does recognize her, almost by fluke, he’s flummoxed that he didn’t recognize her right off the bat. The attraction he feels for her only intensifies. Only her real identity isn’t the only thing she kept from him.
As I said, this one is an up book. I love the way Colton took the news about Brielle, or Ellie as he used to call her. And right off the bat he’s all in for her. And while Brielle is just as drawn to Colton, she has some major trust and self-esteem issues to deal with. Colton was the first to break her heart when he quit communicating with her after he moved away, but he wasn’t the only one to let her down. And I love that Colton’s dad and Travis and Angel are important players in this book. So often a previous main couple only has a small role in the next book when, having invested in them in the previous book, we really want more on how they are still doing. I’m very happy I read this book, because it completely cancels out the couple of Ms. Schlosser’s books that weren’t at the top of the seesaw.
Summary:
BRIELLE
Technically, I’m not a stripper. As a cage dancer, I don’t take all my clothes off and no one gets to touch me. I’m just the eye candy.
And I can feel their eyes on me. I know they’re watching, but I don’t do this for them.
This is my time.
My life may not have turned out the way I thought it would, but I’m not complaining. From 9pm to 1am several days a week I get paid to feel sexy, to feel desired, to do what I love.
I always knew I wanted to be a dancer—I just didn’t realize I’d be doing it in a cage.COLTON
Erectile dysfunction—two words that can cause a collective cringe from men everywhere. The doctors can call it ‘performance anxiety’ all they want, but that’s just a fancy way of saying my d*ck doesn’t work.
Just when I start to think there’s no hope for me, I see her. She’s gorgeous, sexy, and goofy as f*ck. She also looks really familiar but I can’t put my finger on it.
When I find out who she really is, my world is turned upside down and everything seems to fall into place.
She’s not gonna make it easy for me, but I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge. She’s convinced I won’t stick around.
I’ll prove her wrong.
I’ll show her I’m one of the good guys.
