Book CoverKristie J’s review of Untamable by Jamie Schlosser
Contemporary Romance published by Amazon Digital Services 29 Sep 17

And I had such high hopes for this book.  I’d just recently finished another book by the same author, Outcast, and loved it.  In this story, the hero is a cat whisperer and I’m mad for cats.  I love them above all other animals and have two that are a constant delight and pain in the ass at the same time.  So a hero who loves cats is such a given.  And the book started off just great.

Emery, the hero, is the star of a reality-type TV show where he visits people with cat troubles and is filmed treating and making the cats better.  His most recent filming is with what he figures is a crazy old cat lady who hoards the animals.  So he’s most delighted, and attracted, when he meets our heroine Estelle for the first time and discovers she’s most definitely not an old crazy cat lady, but instead a very attractive, yet very lonely young woman who is trying to find the perfect home for a litter of kittens with issues.  The author does a great job describing some of the kitties’ issues.  There is one in particular I could identify with.  One of them chews hair.  One of mine does the same thing and he WILL NOT STOP.  No matter how many times he jumps up behind me and starts chomping and I throw him off, within seconds he’s back again.  There is many a night I’m sitting watching TV with a towel tied tightly on my head.  There are other recognizable traits that had me laughing and nodding my head.

But then the book started losing me once the relationship got deeper between Emery and Estelle – and for a very odd reason.  She doesn’t wear panties under her clothes, apparently never, and all I could think was eww, eww, eww.  It’s mentioned a number of times and completely took me out every time.  I’m not sure if that’s the only reason or not, but the steam just seemed to go out of the engine.  I still enjoyed Emery’s efforts to find the perfect homes for the cats, but the enjoyment was tarnished.  Also the constant running joke of “pussies” got old after a while.  At first it was cute, but then to me it became more and more juvenile.

I see that overall the book gets higher marks than I’m giving it and by no means am I giving up on this author.  In fact, I have a number of her books to read now.  But this one, after starting with a bang, just fizzled out for me.

Summary:

Emery Matheson knows p*ssies. Cats, that is. As the star of a reality show called The P*ssy Tamer, it’s his job to fix extreme feline behavioral issues.

When he hears about his next project—a lonely cat hoarder named Estelle—he expects a little old widow, not the blond bombshell who opens the door.

With a 100 percent success rate, Emery has never had trouble finishing a job. But just a few hours into the first day of filming and one thing is clear—Estelle and her band of misfit p*ssies will give him a run for his money… and his heart.
