Book CoverVeena’s review of The Soul Weaver (The Soul Weaver Series) by Heidi Catherine
Romantic Fantasy published by Crooked Cat Books 19 Jan 18

This is by no means a traditional love story or even a fantasy in the truest sense.  The story leans strongly on the Hindu belief system of the soul journey and reincarnation, as well as the messages of the Bhagavad Gita. Hannah, reincarnated as Lin, tells us her story as she journeys through two lifetimes and reconnects with people who are bound to her soul across those lives.  Get ready for thrills and chills as Hannah journeys beyond the veil of life and spends some time in the between before being reincarnated as Lin. Hannah is a teenage Australian girl in love with Mathew. She hides her relationship with Mathew from her family due to her religious father’s fanatic beliefs about sex and marriage. Her life is tragically cut short when she and Mathew are alone in the woods enjoying an intimate tryst.  Reborn in a Chinese family in Hong Kong, she longingly remembers the woods of her home in Australia, Mathew, and other details that she draws in her art books.

She forms an immediate connection to Reineir, when she meets him in a busy Chinese market. Reineir weaves a fantastic story about souls and reincarnation, which, despite’s its oddity, resonates with her. He tells her how the two of them have connected in various lifetimes but never had the chance to form a lasting relationship in any of them. Will this be the lifetime where she and Reineir are destined to be together?  As Lin journeys around the world in search of the destiny she’s compelled to fulfill, readers get a front side view into the author’s imagination of God, angels, and other beings that go bump at night.

Even while the story is founded on love and connections that transcend a human lifetime there, I found it chilling and too emotional at times. Do I want to read the upcoming books in the series? I’m fascinated yet fearful of where the author will take us next.

Grade:  C+

Summary:

She’s loved and lost him a hundred times across a thousand years. She can’t bear to lose him again.

Lin’s dreams are haunted by faces of people she’s never met. Unable to shake the feeling she’s lived before, she’s drawn to Reinier—a stranger whose soul is heartbreakingly familiar from a time gone by.

Reinier helps Lin unravel the mystery of her past life as Hannah, a girl who sacrificed herself for her true love, Matthew. As Lin falls hopelessly in love with Reinier, her memories of her life as Hannah sharpen, and she finds herself unable to let go of Matthew.

With her heart torn in two, Lin must decide whether she should stand by Reinier’s side or track down Matthew and fight for his love. What she doesn’t know is that her decision will ripple across our troubled planet, affecting far more lives than just her own.
