Dinca’s review of The Secret of Cherokee Cove (Bitterwood PD, Book 5) by Paula Graves
Romantic Suspense published by Harlequin Intrigue 1 Mar 14
Short and sweet romantic suspense. U.S. Marshal Dana Massey from Atlanta is visiting her brother in Bitterwood. Dana finds out some information about her mother’s life before she moved away and married Dana’s father. The mystery is all about the gossip revolving around her mother’s life. When her mother returns to Bitterwood twenty years later, she and her husband die in a tragic car accident.
Detective Walker Nix works for Dana’s brother in the Bitterwood Police Department. When his boss doesn’t show up for his own engagement party, he sets out looking for him and meets up with Dana, who had the same idea. They discover the boss in an accident.
Nix and Dana are great together. This is a really quick romance with very little contact between the main characters. I think they kiss maybe four times and one is on the forehead. He hugs her any chance he gets. If he’s near her, his hand is touching her back. If you want more physical contact, you will not find it here.
No one gets in a fight and hits anyone. But there is a good mystery plot that kept me going to the end.
While Dana and Nix investigate the cold case, they begin to unravel secrets intimating that her mother had committed a crime. The whole town thinks she tried to steal a baby after her own baby dies.
Good storyline despite very little romance, although I think it ended kind of abruptly. It’s all about the mystery.
I have not read the other books in the series, and I just may have to start at the beginning. This book gets just shy of an A + out of me. It’s very well written and edited. However, I would have enjoyed a little more heat between the main characters.
Grade: A

With decades-old secrets—incuding a missing secret baby—being uncovered, it soon became apparent that Dana’s family was at the center of the mystery. As Nix helped Dana solve this cold case, he found himself opening up more than he’d ever dared. Yet when it was over, she’d be leaving.
