Book CoverVeena’s review of Silver Silence (Psy Changeling Trinity, Book 1) by Nalini Singh
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 13 Jun 17

Once again Ms. Singh delivers a story that will keep readers riveted from start to finish.  Prepare to be charmed by the Russian bears, most especially the bear cubs and their alpha, Valentin Nikolaev, as he wages siege on Silver Mercant’s heart and soul.  Against all odds, love blooms in a barren, silent world bringing life to a psy-changeling pairing that is designed to rock the modern world. Despite Silver’s flawless silence, Valentin Nikolaev is compelled to put himself and his love against the heights to court Silver using weapons such as food, charming courting gifts, and gorgeous bear cubs.  His adorable notes to Silver will charm readers’ hearts, especially the ones that he signs “I am a teddy bear” in Russian. Fortunately for Silver, Valentine is in the right place at the right time to save her life against a sneak poison attack then having the privilege to hold her safe in the heart of bear territory.

This is a unique psy-changeling pairing in that both Silver and Valentine are alphas in their own right and at the pinnacle of their power.  She is “Silver Fucking Mercant,” destined to conquer her world and shape world events to fit her own narrative. She is also unique in that her gifts need silence in order for her to survive. Valentine loves her so much that he would rather see her alive and silent without a mating bond than die as his mate – though the sneaky bear does everything in his power to break through her silence to fight for his love.

Things are, as readers know, far from perfect in the world of the Trinity Accord. The psy-net is still failing, despite the empaths’ attempts to keep it sane and is now desperately in need of human bonds to make the sentience healthy again. The consortium seems to be gaining strength in effecting chaos around the world, keeping Trinity resources engaged in fighting the outbreaks all over the world.  While the leaders of the warring factions are still shrouded in mystery, some crumbs of information do come to light that will be interesting to see how they develop.  Also I believe we might be seeing the signs of the first homosexual psy-changeling pairing.

At the end of this book there are as many questions as there are answers, which is the perfect recipe to keep us all frothing for the next story in this series.

Grade: A

Summary:

Control. Precision. Family. These are the principles that drive Silver Mercant. But that’s exactly what Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater bears, brings with him.

Valentin has never met a more fascinating woman. Though Silver is ruled by Silence–her mind clear of all emotion–Valentin senses a whisper of fire around her. That’s what keeps him climbing apartment buildings to be near her. But when a shadow assassin almost succeeds in poisoning Silver, the stakes become deadly serious…and Silver finds herself in the heart of a powerful bear clan.

Her would-be assassin has no idea what their poison has unleashed…
