Book CoverTabs’ review of Romancing The Running Back (Santa Fe Bobcats, Book 4) by Jeanette Murray
Contemporary Romance published by Intermix 19 Jan 16

Jeanette Murray seems to be flying under a lot of people’s radar and I’m not sure why. I love this series. It’s sweet and funny and sexy and often sidesteps cliches that make my teeth ache. This antagonists-to-lovers romance is another great addition to the series.

Anya Fisher and Josiah Walker pretty much have nothing in common besides their mutual friends who are getting married. She’s a personal shopper trying to start over in a new city and recover from a bad relationship that shattered her confidence. He’s a quiet eco-friendly football player who likes to keep things simple. They get off on the wrong foot with each other almost instantly.

He thought he’d been doing well, talking like a normal human, and then he’d criticized her lettuce. Very mature, very smooth.

While it’s actually kind of nice to see people not falling into insta-lust, watching them be irritated by each other… is kind of irritating. Luckily, it doesn’t last forever and things pick up considerably once they both start to relax and get friendly. Anya’s a little prickly but in an understandable way. She keeps things a little close to the cuff because she thinks she needs to, not because she wants to. Josiah’s fun because he doesn’t take himself too seriously. The running gag about his eco-friendly towels being made from koala farts really never gets old. Most of the conflict is internal in this story. They have to learn to make things fit with each other and it’s totally satisfying when they do.

Overall, this is a fun book. Josiah and Anya make a good pair. It started out a bit rocky, but I was totally into it once it hit its groove. I love this whole series and can’t wait to read more. (When is sexy Matt Peterson getting a book?!? I want it!) Luckily, Murray has a whole other series featuring boxing marines to tide me over until the next Bobcats book hits the shelves.

Summary:

They’re not on the same page in the playbook…

When Anya Fisher is asked to be the maid of honor in her best friend’s wedding, she jumps at the chance to go to Santa Fe. There’s nothing left for her in Atlanta—except a bitter and controlling almost-ex husband. Starting over as an online personal shopper is challenging, but not as much as having to plan wedding festivities with uptight groomsman Josiah Walker…

As a Santa Fe Bobcats running back, Josiah wants to make his mark on the field, not on the earth. A serious conservationist, he’s all about saving energy. So why is he wasting so much on the flighty fashionista in his best friend’s wedding? One kiss leads to another—and more. But when Josiah discovers that Anya has just as much substance as style, their harmless little fling may go into overtime…
