If you enjoy your romance with the touch of suspense and a twist of kink, then this series is for you. I had thought the suspense element in the series had played itself out with the first two books, so it’s a nice bonus to find the threads of it here. Wes and Callie are totally unlike what I expected from having met them in the earlier books, more so Wes. He brings a unique blend of tenderness and romance to his loving and initiation of Callie. There truly are many flavors to erotic romance and not all of them have to have pain mixed in with ecstasy.
Callie has fancied herself in love with a man who looks upon her as a sister. Now that he’s found his lost family and the love of his life, she has no choice to move on. Ready to seize life and live it on her terms, she accepts a challenge from Wes Thorne and leaves her safe nest behind for a set of new adventures. I thought this one would be a conventional love story, but it managed to surprise me with the way it actually plays out.
Wes has been intrigued by Callie from the time he met her. He uses the opportunity of Finn’s engagement announcement to take her out of her normal surroundings and into his exotic lifestyle. She blossoms under his expert ministrations like a flower opening under the sun. Not only does he feed the creativeness in her with private after-hours tours to the Louvre and art lessons, but he also feeds all her other appetites.
I definitely enjoyed his brand of domination in the tenderness and romance that he brings to his relationship with Callie. He’s an art connoisseur and when a painting that he helped acquire is stolen, a fake left in its place, he gets involved in trying to recover the stolen painting and find the thieves.
The trail of the thieves leads him right back to his own back yard, both from a social as well as the club circle. It also leads him to a realization of what’s truly important in his life. This mystery is well crafted, which is somewhat unexpected and adds a nice touch of suspense to the story.
