Veena’s review of His Billion Dollar Dilemma (Guide To Love, Book 3) by Alexia Adams
Contemporary Romance published by Entangled 14 Sep 15

This contemporary romance from a new-to-me author is delightful. Steven is a cutthroat businessman with a reputation for buying companies and distilling the parts he wants and selling the rest for piece parts.  Fortunately for Steven, Helen Winston has a lot more going for her than the engineering patents that he wants to get his hands on. In fact, she’s just the right gal to thaw him out of his emotional cold storage – or will she send him into a whole new ice age? I didn’t know when I picked this book up that it’s a part of an ongoing series, and while that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this story, I am definitely planning to find the earlier books in the series to read.

As Helen beards Simon in his hotel, room fresh out a shower, and then shows up for a 4:00 a.m.breakfast meeting, only to find him in meltdown with a phone call from his crying mom and then invites him to an intimate weekend with close friends and family, I swear I felt like I could feel the heat between them singing my eyes.

Apparently Helen has a past of her own that she needs to deal with, and cold emotionless Simon is just the guy to help her emerge from her own cocoon. In return, she’s definitely warming up Simon and adding a whole lot of emotion to a totally emotionless guy who’s only focused on the bottom line. As they both pull the skeletons out of their respective cupboards and help each other deal with them, the story is off and going.

Unfortunately for both of them, Simon is a business shark and has a board that is used to operating a certain way and when he could have influenced them in Helen’s favor, he abstains. Helen is a brilliant engineer who is emerging into a beautiful woman with Simon’s assistance, but she has promised to help the thirty odd employees in her current firm retain their livelihoods, even if that endeavor will place her at odds with her fledgling romance with Simon.

I totally enjoyed her brother’s hacking, which puts Simon in the no-fly zone and causes other problems for him when he’s at odds with Helen. I also enjoyed the circle of friends which Helen has and whose love and affection she extends to Simon as well. Best of all, I do enjoy her parents, Moonbeam and Sunshine, and their desire to live off the natural bounty of the earth. They couldn’t be more of a contrast from Simon’s parents.

I will definitely look for more books from this author.

Grade: B

Summary:

Never judge a geek by her cover…
Simon Lamont is an ice-cold corporate pirate. He buys companies, strips them of their assets, and moves on. With money. Lots and lots of money. But when he arrives in San Francisco to acquire a floundering company and is accosted by a cute engineer with fire in her eyes, it takes all Simon has to maintain his legendary cool.
Helen Winston has mastered hiding behind geeky clothes and an obsessive dedication to her job. So what’s with her desire for the arrogant-and sexy as sin-Simon Lamont? He may have only been wearing a towel when they met, but he’s planning to destroy her company, and Helen will do whatever it takes to change his mind. If that means becoming the sexy woman Simon didn’t know he wanted, so be it. If only she wasn’t about to walk into her own trap…
