Veena’s review of Bound By Sin (Immortal Brothers, Book 3) by Jacquelyn Frank
Paranormal Romance published by Ballantine Books 29 Sep 15

The brothers continue to travel and conquer new worlds in deference to their Goddess Weysa.  Jakum continues to burn every night. One night he discovers a watcher who is fascinated by the burning.  Now  Jaykum burns the sheets with a beautiful woman while death plots are hatched around them. Jacquelyn Frank introduces us to a new and exciting world with her own unique twist on fairy tales and legends. While this might not be my personal favorite in the series, it is an important story since it sets the stage for the last book.

Jakum teams up with Jileana as they both agree to scratch their common itch. During that time Jileana helps defeat a couple of plots intended to kill the brothers.  This part of the story is left abruptly as Jakum leaves town to accompany Jileana to her home, acting as ambassador to convert more followers for his patron goddess.  I enjoyed the steps leading up to when he finally realizes who she is and where they’re heading.

The story seems to go off on a tangent while Jaykum becomes an advisor to the empress of Jiliean’s home world, while the two of them frolic and explore their chemistry.  Some things such as overprotective older brothers and fathers don’t change, no matter which world we’re in.

This story does not flow as smoothly as the other two.  It seems almost like two separate plot lines that have been combined and which never quite flow smoothly as one.  Jaykum is anxious to locate and free his fourth brother from his captivity and punishment and finally his actions bring him favor with the Gods and free his brother, setting the stage for the next story.

This is a key book to read because it ties together the series, but is my least favorite so far.

Grade: B

Summary:

After being chained to a star to burn endlessly as punishment for stealing immortality from the gods, Jaykun has been unshackled to wage war alongside his brothers. But his freedom comes with a price: Each night Jaykun must still suffer—his body burning from the inside out. One early morning, recovering from his torment, he encounters a beautiful stranger on the beach. Naked from her midnight-black hair to her sandy toes, she approaches him with starry-eyed innocence and the unmistakably full body of a woman.

Soon Jaykun is swept up with the force of a comet, his desire for this woman hotter than any sun. His brothers fear he is blinded by her radiant beauty, and that she has been sent by their enemies to seduce and destroy him. Jileana is indeed from another world—one Jaykun cannot begin to imagine. But will their passion burn brightly enough to light the way through the darkness that threatens to consume all in its path?
