Book CoverBook CoverVeena’s review of Her Grave Secrets & Walking on Her Grave (Rogue River, Books 3 & 4) by Kendra Elliot and Melinda Leigh
Romantic Suspense published by Montlake Romance 14 Nov 14 and 18 Nov 14

I really enjoyed these four novellas set in small-town America.  Ms. Elliott and Ms. Leigh’s voices blended seamlessly from one novella to the next as we switch from one sister to the other. Drugs and murder are plaguing a small town in Oregon, which is plunged into notoriety when all they want is to keep their children safe and alive. As Stevie Taylor and Zane Duncan investigate, secrets spill out into the open and the town will never be the same again. I definitely recommend this series, and please read the four books in order since each novella builds upon the last.

Her Grave Secrets, Book 3 by Kendra Elliot

This is the third book in the series. Stevie and Zane have definitely forged a connection. Stevie and the Taylor family fill a place in Zane’s heart that has always hungered for a family.

As the body toll rises and hits close to home, I suspected everyone, not even sparing Stevie’s brother, the mayor, as a possible suspect. Clearly something very sinister is going on and yet every time Zane and his police officers come close to the truth, they find a dead body.  Somebody is definitely killing in order to hide that truth.

As the sinister story plays out, we also see the development of Zane and Stevie’s relationship and the beautiful family moments between the siblings, as well as what it’s like to live in a small town are all things good.

Summary:

There are no secrets in a small town—until someone has one worth dying for.

Local cop Stevie Taylor and police chief Zane Duncan have startling new proof that a deadly street drug is expanding its poisonous grip on their small town: a skull found on the banks of the Rogue River has two bullet holes in the back. Still caught up in the excitement of their new relationship, Stevie and Zane are determined to track down the drug’s source before more lives in Solitude, Oregon, are lost.

Then one death strikes especially close to home, leading to heartache and confusion for Stevie. As the drug distributers strike hard and the body count in Solitude grows higher, she and Zane must hunt down the deadly killer—but are they the predators, or the prey?

Walking on His Grave, Book 4 by Melinda Leigh

The concluding chapter in this series brings together all the threads very neatly and finally unmasks the villain who I am guessing will surprise you as much as it did me.

Seth and Carly and their estrangement has played itself out. Seth is over protective, almost controlling forcing his wife Carly to leave him. They both do really love each other and their daughter. As Seth sees his wife caught up in the murderous events can he still manage to give her the space she needs in order for them to rebuild their relationship while trying to keep her as safe as he can from the murderous events that are unfolding.

A great conclusion but the highlight: the fireworks at their father’s grave by his two law abiding daughters Carly and Stevie.

Summary:

The electrifying conclusion of the romantic suspense novella series from Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot.

The sleepy town of Solitude, Oregon, has turned into ground zero for a turf war between the manufacturers and distributors of a lethal new drug. When a teenage witness disappears, social worker Carly Taylor must find him before he’s silenced permanently.

Rogue County investigator Seth Harding wants to keep Carly, his estranged wife, out of harm’s way, but she refuses to let his concern keep her from doing her job. When one of her young charges vanishes, Carly gets pulled even deeper into the deadly case, and Seth knows he must help her…even if it leads them right into the criminals’ crosshairs.
