Veena’s review of Bring On The Dusk (Night Stalkers, Book 11) by M.L. Buchman
Contemporary Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 03 Mar 15

Mike Gibson, the ultimate D-Boy, captured my imagination from the first when Emily Beale and her team dropped him off in the desert of Afghanistan disguised as a tribesman. Since then we’ve had the good fortune to meet him in other books, anticipating his book.  Mr. Buchman delivers a story that is as unique and compelling as the man and the woman who’s his perfect match.

Claudia Jean Casperson is a cracker jack pilot who actually beat Emily Beale’s test scores, which, of course, we don’t find out until way after she’s proven herself under fire.  It’s quite interesting and somewhat disappointing to see how territorial the women Night Stalkers are as they make Claudia run the gauntlet before she’s accepted into their inner circle.  The one person she’s made a hit with from the get-go is the silent D-boy colonel whose life she saved in her very first mission.  It’s quite amusing how protective the team is of Michael when Claudia and Michael first hook up and how the roles are reversed when this brave man who risks his life every day is scared to risk his heart.

As we get to learn more about the events that shaped Mike into who he is, it is interesting to learn more about his love and affection for the giant redwoods.  Claudia, who grew up in the desert, is definitely in shock at her first introduction to Michael’s favorite tree, which she actually climbs along with Michael to camp up in the canopy. The author definitely uses his imagination as the two creatively find a way to share more than a sleeping bag so far off the ground, only to be rudely interrupted by our favorite Major Henderson, who’s been dispatched to retrieve them and return them to the real world.

As Claudia plans and leads her first black-in-black mission, she creatively leans on other favorite characters to short cut her learning curve. As always the details of the mission are planned to the nth degree and it is interesting to see it unfold. Of course, not everything goes right with the mission and suddenly a man whose courage is unquestioned quails at the thought of risking not just his life but also Claudia’s life on a daily basis.

Mr. Buchman has definitely delivered a very fitting story for Michael and Claudia, and she is in every way a very fitting mate for him. I have enjoyed these stories, and clearly some characters leave a bigger impression than others.
