Veena’s review of Hungry Like A Wolf (SWAT, Book 1)  by Paige Tyler
Paranormal Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 06 Jan 15

This book has it all: romance, action, adventure, and hot, hunky heroes who happen to be wolf shifters. I’ve been reading another series by Paige Tyler, so I was a bit confused when I picked up this book. But I am glad to report that this first book in this new series and the best part of this discovery is that there are twelve more hunks to go on the Dallas SWAT Team who need to find their mates.

Gage Dixon is the biggest, baddest wolf and leader of the Dallas SWAT Team. He has spent years assembling his elite team, all composed of shifters.  They have the best track record of any SWAT team in the country and have successfully managed to keep their secret from their adoring public.  Their too-perfect profile sets the antenna on ace reporter Mackenzie Stone pinging.

She’s determined to get to the bottom of what keeps this team operating at the top of their game 24/7. Convinced that they’re amped on some super-duper drugs or steroids, she determines to stick close and write an expose. However, try as she might, she’s unable to find proof, even after Gage Dixon invites her behind the barbed-wire fence of the compound.  Imagine her surprise when she finally finds out what the team is hiding…

I enjoyed the romance between Gage and Mac. They make a great couple. The rest of the shifters on the team have all come together in order to hide their secrets and they’re ready to throw Gage to the wolves and disappear, but loyalty wins out when he becomes the target of a crime lord.  Will Gage be able to survive the heavy artillery coming his way, win his love, and keep the loyalty of the men all while preserving their secrets?

Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the action adventures of the SWAT team and how they’re able to use their extra abilities in performing their jobs while keeping innocent bystanders safe. These shifters are quite evolved and don’t necessarily believe in the myth of the one mate, which seems to be so paramount in most shifter stories, until Gage falls like nine pins. Perhaps there is more to shifter lore after all and we’ll get to see the others get their comeuppance in future stories.

Grade: B

They’re tight.
They’re on target.
They’re as alpha as men can get.

The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret…they’re a pack of wolf shifters.

The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive, and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn’t sit well with investigative journalist
Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something, and she’s determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She’s smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for
the first time in years. But she’s getting dangerously close to the truth—and perilously close to his heart…
