Sandy M’s review of Make Believe Wedding (Great Wedding Giveaway, Book 9) by Sarah Mayberry
Contemporary Romance published by Tule Publishing Group 28 Jul 14

I apparently couldn’t wait to get back to Marietta, Montana that I skipped over books two through eight. But that’s okay. The characters in Marietta are unforgettable, so I have no problem remembering them each time they show in any book in this series.

Andie has always loved her brother’s best friend, Heath. Suddenly she’s in a mess where her fantasy about him is concerned, and it’s Heath himself who comes to her rescue.

At the Valentine’s Day ball, after a wee bit too much to drink, Andie is a bit forlorn watching her fantasy man Heath dance with someone else. Fantasizing a bit, she fills out the application for the Great Wedding Giveaway, pouring her heart into the questions about her and her man. So what if they’re only in her heart? Then when she’s not paying attention, someone picks up the completed application, thinking it inadvertently left on the table, and submits it with other entries. Andie is mortified.

When Heath finds out he and Andie have been entered in the giveaway, he’s completely baffled how such a thing could happen. But then he realizes how humiliated Andie will be if he just pulls them out of the running. So what’s a few weeks of pretending they really are a couple? Get through the rigimarole of the whole process, then they can silently go their separate ways when all eyes are on the winning couple. It’s the least he can do for the friend Andie has been over the years.

I enjoyed the slow way Heath becomes more and more aware of Andie as a woman than as his best friend’s sister. She’s always been part of his life in one way or another, can do most anything men can do – she’s an electrician and good at her job – and she’s not the petite, curvy type a lot of guys go for. But spending more time with Andie in a “relationship” makes him see her in a new light. Of course, all of Andie’s dreams are coming true and she dreads it the closer the announcement of the giveaway winners gets, because having things go back to just friends isn’t something she’ll be able to do now. These two are very likable characters and the chemistry between them oozes off the page.

Summary:

Everyone in Marietta, Montana, is in love and getting married – at least that’s the way it feels to Andie Bennett the night of the Valentine’s Ball. As she watches the man she’s loved from afar for half her life dance with another woman, Andie allows herself a moment of sheer fantasy as she fills out a stray entry form for the Great Wedding Giveaway. Andie channels years of fantasy and yearning for Heath McGregor onto the page, but she never intends to actually enter the Giveaway. Only a crazy woman would do that. But fate has other ideas….

When Heath learns he and Andie are last minute finalists in the Great Wedding Giveaway, he’s completely baffled. How on earth could anyone make such a ridiculous mistake? When it becomes clear that Andie will be humiliated if the slip-up becomes public, Heath does what any good friend would – he suggests they pretend the engagement is real until the Giveaway is over and then quietly “break up” when no one is paying any attention. It’s the perfect solution, except Heath very quickly realises that pretending Andie is his is no hardship at all. In fact, it may just be the best thing that’s ever happened to him….
