Sylvia Day packs a punch with a story of love and darkness, both deep and ancient, predestined. And it’s a short story. It’s full of mystery, secrets, and a sensuousness that invades you from the moment these characters lock eyes on each other.
There is a fierceness, a rawness in the story, the same kind that permeates Jack in his chase of Caroline. There is also haunted longing, a deep-seated need to protect as Caroline runs from the one thing she’s waited her entire life for, the one thing she knows she simply cannot have. You feel every nuance of every emotion throughout these few pages.
In my last couple of reviews I’ve had a problem with the sex scenes. Not so in this book. This is how those scenes should be done, full of sexual tension, power, gentleness, overwhelming need, and, of course, love. Not a rude or crude word in sight and it’s done with class.
An author who can make you feel so much with so little effort is always worthy of several more reads. I’m definitely going to be glomming Ms. Day’s backlist. I want more of what she has to offer.
