Blurb:

Devon Maertissa is on the run. Her abbreviated time as a resistance fighter resulted in a botched hijacking of an arms shipment in which the arms dealer died. Now there’s a price on her head and bounty hunters on her trail.

Bane Carradoc is determined to do his job and bring in another fugitive, but he’s not prepared for Devon. And while things start out as strictly business between them, their passion is too strong to be ignored.

When another bounty hunter arrives on the scene, Bane has to make a decision. Does he disregard his feelings for Devon and complete the mission? Or does he let his conscience be his guide?

This was a decent read. The bones were good, but I had some quibbles (of course). It kept my interest, moved quickly and had some awesomely hot sex scenes. Devon was a well-written, likable heroine (with a beautiful name). She was strong, yet vulnerable, and avoided acting like a knucklehead. Bane Carradoc, the bounty hunter hero, was a bad boy with a heart of gold type.

I had specifically chosen this book because I thought he was a cyborg, and I love me some cyborgs. He only had a cybernetic implant in his eye though, which allowed him to read temperature and such. I would’ve liked to know why he got it, how widespread such implants are in this fictional universe, and how they are viewed by society. Likewise, I would’ve liked a little more background on how Devon came to be a resistance fighter, as well as what was being resisted. The villain was kept completely offscreen and was quite shadowy, which cut down on dramatic impact.

I really think I need to stop reading erotic romance novellas. I feel like my complaints are always so similar. There is just so much to get done within the truncated length that I almost always end up feeling shortchanged on all accounts. I personally would’ve enjoyed this book more if the futuristic setting had been more fleshed out. The development of the relationship also caused me some cringy moments, what with all the creaming and hardening. The sex was hot, but I found the leap to love a bit unbelievable. But as novellas go, I found this one well-written. I would be interesting in giving this author a try, if she wrote something longer.
