Lisa Kleypas next historical novel is Mine Till Midnight and will be published October 2, 2007 by St. Martin’s Press.

I don’t think it is a summary yet or back cover copy but Lisa did have this in her December 06 letter on her website:

Im in the middle of polishing the final draft of my next historical novel, also for St. Martins, titled “Mine Til Midnight.” It features the character Cam Rohan, from “Devil In Winter,” and without a doubt he is my sexiest and most charismatic hero ever!

Lisa Kleypas in Spain Some of my familiar Wallflower characters will make an appearance in “Mine Till Midnight,” but I’ve also introduced a new family called the Hathaways . . . a group of attractive, eccentric and lovable misfits who had me laughing as I followed them in their adventures. But I think “Mine Til Midnight” is also a very emotional story with a lot of depth, so I hope it will touch your heart as well as make you smile.

I am not sure if the first excerpt she had on the site, which is no longer there, made it into the book or not. But it was too much good fun, at least I thought so. I will have to check and if it is see if we can get it back up.

I said October…. Seven long months away… hee you are still gonna read it right I did 🙂

Excerpt from Mine Till Midnight, coming in October 2007:

It all started when St. Vincent had thrown a bank passbook at Cam in the casual manner he might have used to toss a Rounders ball.

“Ive established an account for you at the London Banking House and Investment Society,” St. Vincent told him. “It’s on Fleet Street. Your percentage of Jenners profits will be deposited monthly. Manage them if you wish, or theyll be managed for you.”

“I dont want a percentage of the profits.” Cam thumbed through the passbook without interest. “My salary is fine.”

“Your salary wouldnt cover the annual cost of my boot-blacking.”

“Its more than enough. And I wouldn’t know what to do with this.” Cam was appalled by the figures listed on the balance page. Scowling, he tossed the book to a nearby table. “Take it back.”

St. Vincent looked amused and vaguely exasperated. “Damnation, man, now that I own the place, I cant have it said that youre paid paupers wages. Do you think Ill tolerate being called a skinflint?”

“Youve been called worse.”

“I dont mind being called worse when I deserve it. Which is often, Im sure.” St. Vincent stared at him in a considering way. And, with one of those damnable flashes of intuition you would never expect from the former profligate, he murmured, “It means nothing, you know. It doesnt make you any less of a Roma whether I pay you in pounds, whales teeth or wampum.”

“Ive compromised too much already. Since I first came to London, Ive stayed under one roof, Ive worn gadjo clothes, Ive worked for a salary. But I draw the line at this.”

“I’ve just given you an investment account, Rohan,” St. Vincent said acidly, “not a pile of manure.”

“I would have preferred the manure. At least it would be good for something.”

“Im afraid to ask. But curiosity compels me . . . what in Gods name is manure good for?”

“Fertilizer.”

“Ah. Well, then, lets approach it this way: money is just another variety of fertilizer.” St. Vincent gestured to the discarded bank passbook. “Do something with it. Whatever pleases you. Although I would advise something other than composting it in sod.”
