I so don’t get why Aphrodisia and Brava keep putting such contemp covers on historicals. I mean if that sells better, isn’t it because you think you are buying a contemp? Well then won’t you be a touch pissed off to see you have a historical?
And for those looking for historicals… would you notice this?
I saw it. I can’t tell you the number of times I passed over this book at amazon. Do readers not want erotic romance in a historical setting? Hell at this point I would take just about any type of historical…. well not inspirational.
Okay, I’ve got to ask, because this question has been driving me crazy for years: what the hell is “the ultimate pleasure” supposed to be? An orgasm? What? When I read that phrase, I wonder if a character is going to come and then drop dead. Ultimate means last, doesn’t it?
LOL I was thinking the same thing! LOL if this was lora leigh I could answer that *g* but no clue here.
Historical erotica is not my fav genre, it a bit like watching your grand parents go for it. A lot. Ewwwww. But then I’m not keen on inspirational ones either. All that talking directly to higher beings kind of creeps me out as well. Obviously a hard audience to please!!! Give me a straight up historical with lots of emotional wollop and I’m one happy little piggy in mud.
And hold the mock contemperory covers. Whats the point???
i was thinking chocolate. she craves chocolate. but it could have been my cravings and i was just confusing the two.
Historical romantica/erotica is my absolute fav. I would have totally past this one by on the bookstore shelves. Thanks for the heads up.
Okay, I’ve read this and it’s really good. Yes, I do think the cover is very contemporary, but keeping in mind that authors have relatively little say in cover selection – it’s the collection of stories inside that counts. And truthfully, I do like the cover but no, it doesn’t say historical to me at all.
Anyway, there’s not a lot of historical erotica that rings true to me. Lacy has done a great job in creating a trio of great erotic stories in a historical setting that works.
Oh and ultimate, in this context means “highest, best, maximum” and not last.
Oh I don’t think it is the authors fault. That was why I say Brava and Aphrodisia, oh! And zebra… which would mean that wacky Kensington must think it sells. And maybe it does but to me it means books being passed over I might have given a shot.
No, I think you’re spot on, Sybil. I think it sets the book up to be bought by someone expecting one thing and gets another which usually means no one is happy.
