Love Song for a Raven was a book I had been looking to find for a while and of course after I found it and posted this (May 2005) Harlequin reprinted it. So now I have not one, not two but yep three copies of this.
Who knew Lowell could write a beta hero?
I haven’t read A Woman Without Lies (Avon Romance), which is where we first meet Raven. But this seems to stand alone well.
This really was a different type of hero, at least from the Lowell books I have read. And I do love me some Elizabeth Lowell. Her Only series (Only His, Only Mine, Only You, Only Love) started my love of westerns and Winter Fire is one of my all time faves. Her medievals are great, grand and wonderful. But I must confess I haven’t tried her romantic suspense books. I did pick up Moving Target at the ‘bag’ sale I was at on Saturday and I have her ‘jewel’ series (Amber Beach, Jade Island, Pearl Cove) in my tbr.
Love Song for a Raven is a short book, over a short time frame so I can see how the love might not ring true for some readers. But it seems like the right time and place for Raven and Janna. And most of the book takes place while they are stranded, so we are treated to a cabin type romance.
If you are a fan of Elizabeth Lowell’s I think you will like this and if you aren’t a fan of her alpha hero’s, you might give this book a shot. The book was worth the hunt to find it. Since it has been reissued it should be pretty easy to find. Has anyone else noticed Harlequin seems to love to reissue Elizabeth Lowell?
Excellent, love it!

You know I loooooove EL and her historicals. I think I have all of them now except a few. I don’t think I’ve read this one… I’ll see if I can fine me a copy.
P.S. I got Reckless Love and slapped my forehead – I totally have read it before (so I’m re-reading it anyway). So many books, so little brain cells to store them all.
I heard that H does the reissues to maintain the rights to those books. I.e., once a book is out of print for a certain number of years, the books revert back to the author. H doesn’t want this to happen, particularly for authors like lowell, howard, roberts, crusie and the like.
Reckless Love is my all-time EL fave! It was the the frist book of hers I’d read and the third western historical romance I’d ever read–which hooked me on the genre in a heartbeat! I have two dog-eared copies, but orded the new one becuase I love the book 😉 Her ONLY series and WARRIOR contemps…sheer perfection IMO 🙂 Took me a while to warm up to her RS…had to stop pouting about the decline of westerns…but those powerful heroes won me over.
