I was told once (along time ago) to read a fic, I think it was a PWP. The email asked me something along the lines of ‘What is Mulder five’?
[fic would be referring to fanfic and PWP would be ‘plot, what plot’ or ‘porn without plot’ depending on who you ask…]
anyhoo I didn’t understand the point of the question and emailed back ‘huh what’? After the person I was now chatting with mocked me for not paying attention to details, she expressed her horror at Mulder’s jeans.
Or more to the point ‘how’ the author described Scully taking off Mulder’s jeans. So I went back and reread the paragraph in question. And yeah… replied ‘huh what’? Her answer was…
THEY SNAP!
When I still didn’t get it, she asked me if I or my husband (see this was a long time ago) owned any jeans with a snap. We didn’t and I couldn’t remember when the last time was I did.
She pointed out her child had jeans that snapped and that most children’s jean’s did but she didn’t know of any brand of adult jeans that did. She was positive there were none and I have never found anything to prove her wrong.
To this day this is something that sticks in my head and I notice repeatedly in contemporary romance. It has never annoyed the shit out of me like it did her but it does register in my mind. Which leads me to question:
1. Is there a brand of adult jeans that snap?
2. Is this something you have ever noticed while reading?
3. What odd thing(s) jumps out at you while reading?
I don’t have any input on snaps, except that, yeah, I can’t remember the last time I saw them on a grown man’s jeans — but I LOVE THAT EPISODE. Makes me want to sing Joy to the World.
