If that is true, and I would like to think it is, why the popularlity of the clinch cover?

At first I thought someone in Seattle had plagiarized the other article, then I realized, Associated Press. The heat has melted my brain.
As much as I like to snicker at some of the romance genres cliches, I do think it’s kind of sad how authors have to kind of distance or defend themselves from the genre. Do fantasy or mystery authors have to say stuff like this.
I’m amazed at the popularity of the clinch cover or stepback. They add nothing and they make me giggle. I refused to look at the one for Scandal in Spring after the DiW one.
While at RWA I attended a workshop given by the romance buyer from Borders. She told us that sexy covers sell better than non-sexy ones; which is the only reason I can think of that the clinch covers are still around.
I do. I like them. I miss them. To me, it was like I was really going to read something dramatic and romantic, you know? Passionate, as opposed to just lustful. Not that lustful is bad. Both are even better. 🙂

That article’s really been making the rounds…

Someone must think they’re sexy!
I need that job 😉
I really believe they must sell but no one admits to liking them.
