Devon's review of Compromised by Nathalie Gray
Futuristic erotic romance eBook released by Red Sage 1 May 08
When will I ever learn to pay more attention to detail? I enjoy a good futuristic/Sci-Fi romance now and then, and Nathalie Gray's books looked like they would fit the bill. I was intrigued by the descriptions of kick ass heroines, and harsh futuristic settings. So when Compromised came up for review, I jumped on it. When I opened it up to read, I was dismayed to see that it was a novella. Novellas tend not to work for me, especially erotic romance ones. But it sounded good, and I like reunited lovers stories, so I pressed on. Read more

Futuristic Romance released by Ellora's Cave 7 May 08
Every once in awhile, when I'm feeling a bit sick of the same old, same old, I like to sink my teeth into a SciFi/futuristic romance. Futuristic romances present a similar challenge to paranormal: that of creating a coherent, consistent alternate universe in addition to a believable love story. Authors have to avoid the dreaded info dump, while weaving the details of their world, so that it's not all meaningless jargon and faux technological mumbo-jumbo. On the other hand, you don't want to give too little detail, because then the reader has too many questions, and can't get involved in the story.

SciFi/Futuristic Romance released by HQN 1 Jun 08
SciFi/Futuristic Romance tends to be hit or miss for me. And lately it's been all miss. That's why I was I was nicely surprised by Moonstruck, the first in Susan Grant's new Borderlands series. It is sure to be enjoyed by readers who like a bit of Space Opera, and readers who like a kick ass heroine.

I figured that if I wait until I have time to do full reviews of these six books, airborne porcine would be commonplace. So I decided to just do it - write a bunch of quick hits. These are all over the place as far as genre and release dates, so bear with me. Below are short reviews for:
~ A Lick of Frost (Meredith Gentry, Book 6) by Laurell K. Hamilton - fantasy fiction
~ The Kiss by Sophia Nash - regency historical romance
~ The Last Warrior by Karen Kay - American west historical romance
~ Creation in Death by J.D. Robb - Furturistic thriller
~ How to Propose to a Prince (The Royle Sisters, Book 3) by Kathryn Caskie - regency historical romance
~ Midnight Rising (The Midnight Breed, Book 4) by Lara Adrian - contemporary paranormal romance

This anthology focuses on, you guessed it, shapeshifters and their loves. And can I saw that this is a tremendous collection of authors? LOVED the book. Well. Mostly...

Gwen's review of Dawn's Awakening (The Breeds, Book 4) by Lora Leigh
Futuristic paranormal romance released 5 Feb 08 by Berkley
Leigh's Breed series is a peek into a world where human/predator eugenisis is a reality and this bioengineering of "weapons" is an old, dirty secret that the world is still reeling from. Dawn's Awakening is book 4 in that series (books are published out of order and most can be read that way). It's a raw, compelling world with heroes and heroines you cheer for, and superb villains. I hesitated to start this book. I knew it was the last in the series and I didn't want the magic to end. I wanted my visit to Dante and Japhrimel's worlds to go on and on. Well, I hesitated about half a day. I just had to see what happened next.

Futuristic Urban Fantasy released by Orbit 1 Nov 07
It's nearly impossible to review a Dante Valentine novel on its own. Each of the now four books is dependent on the others. I also recommend reading the glossary before you start. Yes, the glossary and I heard some of you groaning out there. Remember, Saintcrow hasn't created a small world here. It's complex and about 100 years in the future with magic, weres, nichtvren (vampires), demons, witches, psychics, humans, and myriad other beings all living together. This alternate world fits over what we know like a loose framework. Like one of those crocheted ponchos you wore as a kid, you can see what's underneath but you were still covered. It's truly fascinating and has some interesting political and religious differences. Read more

Futuristic romance published 28 Aug 07 by Shomi/Lovespell
Holy icicles, Batman! This futuristic/sci-fi/urban-like romance was a total treat to read! The heroine is a kickass, vulnerable but competent woman named Raina. The hero is an emotionally buttoned-down, kickass but controlled hunk named Wizard. And in this book, they kick ass and take names together, all while falling in love and, naturally, saving a large portion of the world.
