REVIEW: Disrobed and Dishonored by Louise Allen

Book Cover Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of Disrobed and Dishonored by Louise Allen
Historical romance ebook short story released by Harlequin Historical Undone 1 May 09

I’ve been reading quite a few sexy short stories lately and a popular theme keeps cropping up in the historicals. The heroine finds herself betrothed to a thoroughly undesirable beau and figures the best way to get out of the situation is to rid herself of her virginity. Sometimes this particular trope works for me… and sometimes it doesn’t. It all boils down to how well the author can sell the characters, and in this case I had a bit of a mixed reaction. read more…

REVIEW: In His Mind by Cheryl Dragon

Book CoverSandy M’s review of In His Mind (Raynes Paranormal Investigations, Book 3) by Cheryl Dragon
Contemporary Paranormal Erotic eBook short story released by Cerridwen Press 4 Feb 09

I don’t read male/male books very often, mostly because I’ve yet to find many that work for me. I tried this one because the blurb didn’t sound too bad and I’ve wanted to read Cheryl Dragon. So this was my chance. Unfortunately, this short story fell short just as so many have before it. read more…

REVIEW: The Immortal Hunter by Lynsay Sands

Book CoverLawson’s review of The Immortal Hunter (Argeneau Vampires, Book 11, or Rogue Hunters, Book 2) by Lynsay Sands
Paranormal romance released by Avon 31 Mar 09

I am a fan of Sands’ Argeneau or vampire (Immortals) series and will probably be for some time. This isn’t to say that some of the books are better than others, but there are many other stories to tell in this world. This is the second in a loose series following Council Enforcers, or rouge vampire hunters. Enforcers keep the peace in the community and when an immortal goes rogue, or starts hurting humans for a variety of dastardly purposes. The first book followed one of these hunters, and Immortal Hunter follows another, Decker (Argeneau) Pimms. read more…

Nancy Haddock is our guest, so get ready for some fun!

One of those authors who have taken to heart to write what she knows, Nancy has hit the motherlode with her stories of St. Augustine, Florida, where her heroine, Cesca, gets a second chance at life in La Vida Vampire and Last Vampire Standing, (see my reviews here) the first two books in her Oldest City Vampire series that hit the shelves in April of last year.  read more…

REVIEW: Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione

Book CoverShannon C.’s review of Desire Unchained (Demonica, Book 2) by Larissa Ione
Paranormal romance released by Forever 3 Mar 09

It says something about the compellingness (is that even a word?) of an author’s series when it doesn’t take me six months between reading books. I didn’t wait long at all between reading Pleasure Unbound and starting in on Desire Unchained. And I have to say that this is an awesome paranormal series, and if Larissa Ione keeps it up, she will land on my very short list of auto-buy authors. read more…

REVIEW: All Tied Up by Cathryn Fox

book cover LauraJ’s review of All Tied Up (Pleasure Inn, Book 1) by Cathryn Fox
Contemporary Erotic Romance novella released by Samhain Publishing 19 May 09

How does she do it? Cathryn Fox is able to create stories in a short amount of space and you still feel like you have read a regular full length novel. I have heard authors say that it’s much harder for them to write a novella than a novel because they have so much they want to say or they need to say to convey the entire story. In all the novella’s I have read by Ms. Fox I have never left feeling that I have missed any part of the story. read more…

REVIEW: To Beguile a Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt

Book Cover Lawson’s review of To Beguile a Beast (Legend of the Four Soldiers, Book 3) by Elizabeth Hoyt
Historical romance released by Grand Central 19 May 09

This is the third book in Hoyt’s Legend of the Four Soldiers series, about survivors of a massacre during the Seven Year’s War (that would be the French and Indian War to the Americans). The first book followed a colonist acting as a scout, the second followed one of the officers, and this one follows a civilian botanist attached to the unit. All of the survivors have scars from the massacre, but Sir Alistair Munroe has the most physical scars (hence the Beast in the title). A common story that ties all the books together is the search for a possible traitor that betrayed the unit to the French and the Indians that perpetrated the massacre. read more…

REVIEW: The Sinful Life of Lucy Burns by Elizabeth Leiknes

The Sinful Life of Lucy BurnsSandy M’s review of The Sinful Life of Lucy Burns by Elizabeth Leiknes
Paranormal Chick Lit Women’s Fiction published by Bancroft Press 15 Jun 09

This isn’t the usual type of book I read, but when it was offered up by the publisher for review, and after reading the blurb, I thought why not. And now I’m certainly glad I did. This was a fun story with serious undertones told in a clear, crisp manner with quirky characters full of charm. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
