REVIEW: The Betrayal by Pati Nagle
Gwen’s review of The Betrayal (The Ælven, Book 1) by Pati Nagle
Romantic fantasy released by Del Rey 24 Mar 09
I don’t get much chance to read fantasy, though it is one of my first literary loves. I cut my reader’s teeth on J.R.R. Tolkien, Roger Zelazny, and Terry Brooks. To this day, I hear music that I listened to while reading and I still get a nostalgic whiff of what it was like to first experience those books. It’s like being touched by the ghost of a wonderful old friend – a bit of a shiver and peaceful feeling all at the same time. I got that same feeling, and a touch of romance, with this book and it was a very nice homecoming. read more…
REVIEW: Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrian
Lynne Connolly’s Review of Ashes of Midnight (The Midnight Breed, Book 6) by Lara Adrian
Contemporary paranormal romance released by Dell 26 May 09
Andreas Reichen was one of my favorite characters in the Midnight Breeds series. I loved the laid-back German vampire, head of a Darkhaven. I was gagging for his story, since (spoiler alert for Veil of Midnight) at the end of the last book he was bereft in the worse possible way, and Adrian spared us nothing. Men, women and children were killed. What a prospect for the next book!

Why I need the sexxing
For those of you who know what I write, it won’t be a surprise to know that I like my books sexy. But it’s not essential. read more…
REVIEW: Wickedly Ever After by Michelle Marcos
Sandy M’s review of Wickedly Ever After (Pleasure Emporium, Book 3) by Michelle Marcos
Historical Romance published by St. Martin’s 30 Jun 09
I’ve read and reviewed all of this authors’ books so far. While I enjoyed the first two, When a Lady Misbehaves and Gentlemen Behaving Badly, (see my reviews here and here) for the most part, there were things about them that didn’t quite make them keepers for me. WEA won’t be a keeper either, but I liked it a lot better than the first two books. I can see definite growth in Ms. Marcos’ writing and her character development, the sign of a really good author in the making.
REVIEW: Menage On A Train by Alice Gaines
Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of Ménage On A Train by Alice Gaines
Erotica ebook short story released by Spice Briefs 1 Apr 09
Travel is a popular theme often explored in erotic romance and erotica. Makes me wonder if there’s a travel agency somewhere that specializes in these sorts of getaways: 5 days, 4 nights, and your own personal horny cabana boy! In Alice Gaines’ latest story for Spice Briefs, the heroine finds herself ditching the Mile High Club in favor of a luxury train through eastern Europe. read more…
DDS REVIEWS: Langley Family Trilogy by Lucy Monroe
Sandy M’s Duckies Do Series reviews of the Langley Family Trilogy by Lucy Monroe
Historical Romances released by Berkley Sep 2005 – Oct 2006
I’ve had this trilogy in the TBR pile for quite some time, and since I was lucky enough to find all three of them there at the same time, I had to read them now while they were in hand. (Books have a way of getting up and walking out around my house, so I read them when I can see them.) I’ve enjoyed Ms. Monroe’s contemporaries that I’ve read over the last couple of years, so I wanted to check out her historicals. I am certainly glad I did. read more…
REVIEW: Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton
Gwen’s review of Skin Trade (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter, Book 17) by Laurell K. Hamilton
Urban fantasy hardcover released by Berkley 2 Jun 09
Laurell K. Hamilton is one of those “love her” or “hate her” authors. It’s seldom that someone sits on a fence with her writing. Her storytelling has changed enough over the last ten years or so for people’s opinions to also change – those that once loved her may now hate her and vice versa. I’m a little more middle of the road with her – sometimes I love her and sometimes I wanna throw the book at the wall… usually more than once. PLEASE NOTE! THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS! read more…
REVIEW: The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams
Limecello’s review of The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams (illustrated by William Nicholson)
Children’s story re-published by Harper Collins on 9 Mar 99 (originally pub’d 1922)
You won’t be surprised to hear that more conversation is what spurred my reading of this book. I jumped into a conversation about Young Adult fiction, but then decided to browse the classics that were online. Imagine my surprise when I saw that I could read an electronic copy of The Velveteen Rabbit. I actually don’t think I’ve ever read the book until now, though I remember watching film/tv adaptations in elementary school. It was nice to take this nostalgic little turn. read more…
REVIEW: Tempt the Devil by Anna Campbell
Lawson’s review of Tempt the Devil by Anna Campbell
Historical romance released by Avon 30 Dec 08
One can always count on Anna Campbell to deliver an emotional story with a bit of a different view. Tempt the Devil is set in the same world as Claiming the Courtesan, but it’s not a sequel. Another notorious woman, another nobleman and another battle of wills between to very strong people. What comes out by the end is a different sort of story from Campbell, and an unexpected ride. read more…
