Sherlock – a new TV series

LynneCs iconA new take on Sherlock Holmes? I have to admit I didn’t go to see the new film with Downey. I love Downey and most of his films, but his take on Sherlock Holmes left me cold, and I did see all that I could online before deciding not to go. I’m a believer in the canon, an early convert. I discovered Holmes at the age of 9 or 10 and loved them unconditionally, and I’ve loved them ever since. Holmes for me is a man with a receding hairline, a noble forehead, large nose, a big man, not just tall, but powerfully built, but also capable of extreme emaciation, as he puts his body through the worst of torture. He’s not an addict, but he uses cocaine to stop being bored. Downey didn’t look like Holmes and in the clips I saw, didn’t behave like him, either. My ideal Holmes was Jeremy Brett, who filmed the whole of the stories for ITV in the 1980’s. Perfect.

REVIEW: Untamed Rogue, Scandalous Mistress by Bronwyn Scott

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Untamed Rogue, Scandalous Mistress by Bronywn Scott
Historical Romance published by Harlequin Historical 1 Jul 10

I so love a story that has a hero and heroine working together to overcome conflict instead of having that conflict break them up, keep them apart, and make them snarl and snip at one another. Bronwyn Scott does that beautifully in this book, all the while giving us strong characters and a very interesting backdrop with steeplechase racing.

REVIEW: Tipping the Waitress with Diamonds by Nina Harrington

Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of Tipping the Waitress with Diamonds by Nina Harrington
Contemporary romance released by Harlequin Romance 11 May 2010

Having only recently discovered the Harlequin Romance line, I’ve happily been trolling through the monthly offerings, snagging any and all books featuring book cover blurbs that tickle my fancy. This latest from Harrington has a setting any foodie should adore, and I’m a complete sucker for a reunion theme. While this story certainly has plenty of charm, from a writing style standpoint, it was a bit of a mixed bag for me.

REVIEW: How I Met My Countess by Elizabeth Boyle

Book CoverLawson’s review of How I Met My Countess (Bachelor Chronicles, Book 6) by Elizabeth Boyle
Historical Romance released by Avon 29 Dec 09

They are all apparently young and now living off the good graces of the Hollindrake family. The first of the Lady Standons to fall is Lucy, formerly Lucy Ellyson, who has a very interesting past.
