Well, our heroine does fall in love with Dino, but it’s because he walks into her life after some devastating news. GUEST BLOG: Globe Trotting Romance Style by Helen Scott Taylor
One of my great pleasures in writing a new story is researching the setting. If I’m really lucky I get to visit the place I plan to set my book. In pursuit of research, I’ve visited Ireland twice for my paranormal series, the Italian Amalfi coast, which features in a contemporary romance, Finally Home, due out from Carina in September, and the Island of Jersey in the English Channel for Unbreak My Heart.
REVIEW: Oceans Between Us by Helen Scott Taylor
Sandy M’s review of Oceans Between Us by Helen Scott Taylor
Contemporary Romance published by Helen Scott Taylor 1 May 12
I’m a tad befuddled after reading the last two books by Helen Scott Taylor that I love the heroes, but the heroines have given me a hard time. Just an interesting observation on my end, because in her previous books, I also loved Ms. Taylor’s female leads. While I like Maria and enjoy getting to know her, she does toss me into a fit late in the book, but honest heroine that she is, she fesses up and all ends well.
REVIEW: Born of Silence by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Veena’s review of Born of Silence (The League, Book 6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Futuristic Romance published by Grand Central 1 May 12
Sherrilyn Kenyon continues her futuristic League series with the next member of the Sentella Kere aka Darling Cruel. For an author who writes the most tortured heroes, Born of Silence and Darling Cruel are one of her most heartbreaking yet. Born into wealth and privilige, Darling has a horrific upbringing. Burning with vengeance, he secretly trains himself into into a lethal warrior with the help of Nykyrian Quikiades, leading league assassin. Portraying himself as a bumbling, gay idiot in public, he joins the local resistance movement as his alter ego Kere, where he teams with Zarya Starling to bring down the Cruel dynasty.
REVIEW: The Taken (Celestial Blues, Book 1) by Vicki Pettersson
Liviania’s review of The Taken (Celestial Blues, Book 1) by Vicki Pettersson
Paranormal romance published by Harper Voyager 12 June 12
I love Vicki Pettersson’s Signs of the Zodiac series, so I couldn’t wait to read The Taken. The setting, modern Las Vegas, is the same, but the characters are very different. Griffin Shaw is a low-level angel being punished for a big mistake he made on his last job. Katherine “Kit” Craig is the woman who is going to die because of his mistake.
REVIEW: Sweet Spot by Kate Angell
Laura C’s review of Sweet Spot (Boys of Summer, Book 5) by Kate Angell
Contemporary Romance published by Kensington 01 May 12
Contemporaries are in short supply, and I’ve liked Angell’s books in the past, so I was looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get far enough into this one to really enjoy the story. I understand that this is the “wrap up” book for her series and so she feels the need to give everyone some page time, but it really dilutes the romance…which felt odd to begin with.
REVIEW: Lyon’s Bride by Cathy Maxwell
Liviania’s review of Lyon’s Bride (The Chattan Curse, Book 1) by Cathy Maxwell
Paranormal Historical Romance published by Avon 24 Apr 12
This is my first time reading a Cathy Maxwell book and thus I had no idea what to expect. I did begin it disappointed with the last romance I read, which had a few similarities to Lyon’s Bride. Namely, both feature a widow falling in love with a man she has a past with. Aside from that, the two books are very different. At first it’s a good difference, because Lyon’s Bride has more conflict.
My Heart is Broken
Yesterday I made one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, as a lot of you pet owners will attest to, I’m sure. My 18-year-old cat, Winter, had been sick for a while, but he was holding his own for a number of months. And then the last two weeks, I could begin to see a change in his symptoms, and I knew it was time to really dig deep to do the right thing for him. So now June 8 will be forever etched in my life as the day that broke my heart.
