REVIEW: Love at First Sight by Lori Wilde

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Love at First Sight (Cupid, Texas, Book 1) by Lori Wilde
Contemporary Romance published by Avon 28 May 13

I realize in a way I’m not being fair to Ms. Wilde when I review her books now. I’ve read only her Texas series books, with The Cowboy Takes a Bride in the Jubilee, Texas series being my favorite. So each book I read now I compare to that one. No other has beat out Joe Daniels as he sits, drinking and exchanging barbs with Mariah Callahan, in a gold-plated horse trough. I just can’t help tossing every hero, along with his situation, up next to Joe, as much as I try not to. So where does ex-SEAL Dade Vega rate in this first book of a new series?

PONDERING: Purple Heart Update

sandym-iconBack in May I shared with all of you my amazing story of being involved in returning a lost Purple Heart to the family of the fallen soldier it had been awarded to. Along with that proud moment also came disappointment, when my work and those of other volunteers in the Genealogy Room at our local library was disregarded and credit given to those who didn’t do the research.

I have some more news to pass along, news I’m very happy to share.

REVIEW: Uncharted by Tracey Garvis Graves

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Uncharted (On the Island, Book 2) by Tracey Garvis Graves
Contemporary Romance novella published by Dutton Adult 2 Jul 13

I was so very pleasantly surprised and thrilled when I received this novella by Tracey Garvis-Graves for review. I had no idea she’d been working on a follow-up to her wonderful story, On the Island, that I read, loved, and reviewed last year. This story is about what happened on the island before T.J. and Anna were marooned there, and what a story it is.

EXCERPT: The Lemon Orchard by Luanne Rice

Book CoverIf you’ve not yet read my review of Luanne Rice‘s The Lemon Orchard, be sure to do so before you leave the blog today. You will fall in love with Roberto and Julia just like I did.

I think you will also become a fan of Luanne Rice’s. Her characters are real, likeable, and very sympathetic. The stories these characters live are just as real. Roberto and Julia share their very emotional story while falling in love. A love that was never foreseen and is lovely in its simplicity.

When tragic happiness – how’s that for an oxymoron? – infiltrates their world, well, that’s something you definitely have to read for yourself. With this excerpt you can get a feel for the hero, Roberto, who has learned to live life cautiously while trying to still overcome the most devastating of losses.

REVIEW: The Lemon Orchard by Luanne Rice

Book CoverSandy M’s review of The Lemon Orchard by Luanne Rice
Contemporary Romance published by Pamela Dorman Books 2 Jul 13

I’ve taken some time after finishing this book to write my review, because I needed a little bit to think this story over. I enjoyed the book a lot, but I wish I’d made a visit to Luanne Rice’s web site before beginning to read it. There, in a short description of the story, are two words that would have saved me from an ending that threw me for one huge loop.

REVIEW: Redneck Romeo by Lorelei James

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Redneck Romeo (Rough Riders, Book 15) by Lorelei James
Contemporary Western Romance published by Samhain 18 Jun 13

I was so excited, this book released two days before my birthday last month. Happy birthday to me! Then why has it taken me so long to read this next Rough Riders story? The copy I got from Amazon had blocks of text missing. In every chapter. It was a number of days later before I could get on the phone with them to get a good copy. But when I finally did…
