REVIEW: Twilight with the Infamous Earl

Book Cover

Sandy M’s review of Twilight with the Infamous Earl (Lords of Vice, Book 7) by Alexandra Hawkins
Historical Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 26 Nov 13

This is it. The last book in this Lords of Vice series. And ending with the baddest boy of them all seems a fitting send-off. Frost has beguiled readers for years now, and anticipating his story has kept them on tenterhooks, guessing how it’s all going to come together for him and his heroine. The question is: does Frost find that heroine who is his match? The one who stands up to him when needed? The one he’ll do anything in the world for?

REVIEW: Bound by the Night by Larissa Ione

Book Cover

Veena’s review of Bound by the Night (The Moonbound Clan Vampires) by Larissa Ione
Paranormal Romance published by Pocket 24 Sep 13

Vampires are one of the most prolific of subjects for paranormal authors. After all of this time I didn’t believe that anyone could give them a new twist until I read this book by Ms. Ione. In a complete departure from the norm, she portrays vampires as slaves and test subjects for medical research. This lead-in already tells you that it’s a dark book, but there are some redeeming moments that make this story a worthwhile read.

REVIEW: The Governess Club: Bonnie by Ellie Macdonald

Book CoverStevie‘s review of The Governess Club: Bonnie (The Governess Club, Book 2) by Ellie Macdonald
Historical Romance published by Avon Impulse 17 Sep 13

I was a little unsure what I was going to get with this book. The first book in the series had a cute premise, but far too many anachronisms and errors (especially with regard to titles and their inheritance) for me to be entirely happy with it. This book, I’m pleased to report, does far better on the latter score other than one brief dip into 20th/21st Century pop-psychology and a few situations where I couldn’t quite believe the hero and heroine would really have got away with being alone together. But such is the nature of a lot of romances.

REVIEW: The Stranger You Know by Andrea Kane

Book Cover

Veena’s review of The Stranger You Know (Forensic Instincts, Book 3) by Andrea Kane
Psychological Crime Thriller published by Harlequin Mira 24 Sep 13

I automatically purchase everything with Andrea Kane’s name on it, and this book just reinforces my decision to continue to do so. I know the Forensic Instincts team, having worked with them in two previous books, as they used their skills and strengths to solve crimes and put criminals behind bars. The last time they did step a little out of the black in order to catch the bad guy, but he’s safe behind bars so how can he continue to orchestrate murder with his signature MO. Clearly he’s also made it very personal, since each victim is personally connected to Casey Woods and a clue to each murder is left near the home of our her team. Is your adrenaline pumping? Mine definitely did as I turned pages and worked closely with the team to stop the murders and save Casey. read more…

REVIEW: The Training by Tara Sue Me

Book Cover

Sandy M’s review of The Training (Submissive Trilogy, Book 3) by Tara Sue Me
Erotic Romance published by NAL Trade 1 October 2013

After really enjoying the first two books in this trilogy – Nathaniel and Abby finding their way to love amid their D/s lifestyle and a bit of heartache – I knew we’d get a lot of training. I hoped we’d also get more of their daily life together – their playtime is weekends only – plus see how their new world progresses for them both. There’s a little of that, but I feel we get to know only one of these characters better than we already do.

Sandy M’s review of The No Good Irresistible Viscount Tipton (Bedegraynes, Book 1) by Alexandra Hawkins
Historical Romance published/reissued by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 1 Nov 13

I’ve been a fan of Alexandra Hawkins for a few years now, discovering her Carlyle family series when she was writing under the name of Barbara Pierce. I never did get to her Bedegrayne books before she began her Lords of Vice series, and those have kept me busy for a while. Now that St. Martin’s has reissued the Bedegraynes  in e-format, I’m not missing the opportunity to read about the family who started it all for this very talented author.

REVIEW: Waking Up To You & Overexposed by Leslie Kelly

Book Cover

LynneC’s review of Waking Up To You & Overexposed by Leslie Kelly
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Blaze 23 Apr 2013

This is a tricky review to write, because it’s been a few weeks since I read the book, and already I’m finding it hard to remember the characters and plot. However, it does closely resemble (by way of homage rather than copy) a book I last read twenty years ago, but pretty much remember every detail – Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
