Kaitlyn‘s review of A Sea of Unspoken Things by Adrienne Young
Contemporary Romance published by Dell 7 Jan 25

An atmospheric mystery set in a small town surrounded by a dark forest. After the death of her twin brother, James still feels a physical connection to him. She heads home after twenty years away to settle his affairs and is immediately convinced his death wasn’t an accident.

As always, Adrienne’s writing is beautiful and completely immerses you in the story. I had to read as quickly as possible, because I was dying to know what happened. Adrienne Young is one of my favorite authors and I know her books will always be a hit. This adult mystery, with a dash of magical realism, is no exception. The Unmaking of June Farrow will always be my favorite of hers, as well as one of my all-time favorite books ever, but this story isn’t too far behind it.

This book is now on the shelves, and I’d definitely recommend putting it at the top of your TBR. This is my first read of the year and I couldn’t have started 2025 off with a better book.

Have you read any of Adrienne’s books? My favorites are The Unmaking of June Farrow, an enchanting mystery romance; Saint, the prequel to Fable and Namesake and is the perfect sea adventure; and Sky in the Deep is my favorite Viking book that I might need a reread soon.

Grade: A

Summary:

James and Johnny Golden were once inseparable. For as long as she can remember, James shared an almost supernatural connection with her twin brother, Johnny, that went beyond intuition—she could feel what he was feeling. So, when Johnny is killed in a tragic accident, James knows before her phone even rings that her brother is gone and that she’s alone—truly alone—for the first time in her life.

When James arrives in the secluded town of Six Rivers, California, to settle her brother’s affairs, she’s forced to revisit the ominous events of their shared past and finally face Micah, the only other person who knows their secrets—and the only man she has ever loved.

But as James delves deeper into Johnny’s world, she realizes that their unique connection hasn’t completely vanished. The more she immerses herself in his life, the more questions she has about the brother she thought she knew. Johnny was hiding something, and he’s not the only one. The deeper she digs, the more she is compelled to unravel the truth behind the days leading up to Johnny’s death. Ultimately, James must decide which truths should come to light, and which are better left buried forever.
