Oh, Jax, how readers look at you as a playboy who will never settle down. Then we get the reminder that your heart is as big as your Haven River Ranch. Of course, all it takes is the love of a good woman, despite her past, as well as yours, and the fact Montana is only temporary for her.
After a really cute first meeting, both Jax and Sasha are intrigued with each other. But the second Sasha knows who he is, she backs off. Jax, however, is that much more interested. Even despite him technically being her boss for the foreseeable future. I love one of his ways of hopefully breaking down her walls – “Tell me a lie” and “Tell me a secret.” We get to know them both through this sometimes-difficult process, just as much as they get to know one another.
We also get to see the relationship between Jax and his stepmother and how it has affected him over his life. This is out there in the open for us, waiting for hopefully a good resolution. All the while we also get to see Sasha’s mysterious Eddie, but that resolution waits until near the very end. Both journeys are emotional and heartfelt, and we can only hope they both come through to the end whole and happy. It’s lovely to see Jax come into his own in every way and to see Sasha finally give in to the love she so desperately tries to avoid in the beginning.
It’s also nice to catch up with the characters we met in Crossroads, how their lives and romance are coming along. And because I am a sucker for stories about brothers, it’s wonderful to see that Jax’s relationship with West has matured and strengthened. As usual, Devney Perry has given readers one heck of a romance. This is a duet, so if you’ve not started it yet, now’s the time.

Summary:
My first day in Montana, I got into a tug-of-war over a grocery store shopping cart. The most handsome man I’d ever seen broke up the scuffle before he asked me on a date. I was seconds away from accepting but then he told me his name.
As an owner of the Haven River Ranch, Jax Haven wasn’t my boss. But he wasn’t not my boss either.
Obviously, my only option was to turn him down, scurry away, then pretend like he was a stranger on my first day of work. And obviously, I could never, ever admit that he was my secret crush.
For as hard as I work at my job, I work twice as hard to pretend Jax doesn’t exist. I don’t let myself think about his dazzling eyes or charming smile. I refuse to acknowledge how good he looks in a pair of faded Wrangler jeans. And as tempting as he is in a cowboy hat, Jax is a distraction I cannot afford.
Everything was going according to plan until the annual holiday party. Until I drank one too many flutes of champagne and let him sweep me off my feet. After a night in his bed, there was no more ignoring Jax Haven. Not when I’m pregnant with his baby.
