Sandy M’s review of The Sound of Secrets (Monster Duet, Book 2) by Jay Crownover
Contemporary Romance published by Jay Crownover 23 Oct 24

After everything Win and Channing went through in the first book of this duet, you’d hope against all hope things would be get better for them, especially when it comes to their happily ever after, but sorry to say your hope would be dashed again and again. They still have so much go through before we discover if they’re truly destined to be together. All those secrets…

Channing has a tendency to keep her secrets close to the vest and run from it all. Which is how we find her at the beginning of this story. Nothing goes her way once Win and her niece Winnie find her doing what she shouldn’t be doing alone. Win is still recovering from the disaster at the end of Book 1, but little does Channing know he would do anything for her and to make sure she’s safe.

And he’s definitely done that when it comes to the family business. I love Win. While he has his flaws, he’s willing to do what it takes to keep his remaining family together. He learns a tad faster than Channing how to do that. They both have horrible pasts, and Channing’s is still gunning for her, and life gets uglier and uglier as all those secrets come to the fore. But when she finally catches up with her feelings and admits them even to herself, your hope once again resurges for these two.

I like Archie, Win’s half-brother, a lot. His life takes a turn he and the reader don’t see coming. Win’s other brother has a lot to get through after his earlier devastation wrought by his mother, but it’s wonderful to see him interacting with his daughter. While this family has been through hell in so many ways, they do persevere, and you can’t help but cheer for them.

Another emotional and tense read from Ms. Crownover. My hope is still alive that you’ll give this duet a chance if you haven’t yet.

Grade: A
