Sandy M’s review of Crossroads (Haven River Ranch, Book 1) by Devney Perry
Contemporary Romance published by Montlake 4 Jun 24

Devney Perry continues to pull readers into her wonderful stories with this newest series, Haven River Ranch. West and Indya have a long and complicated past, which comes to light when Indya shows up out of the blue and West and his brother learn their father has pulled the rug out from under them without so much as a “Hey, your lives are going to seriously change, sorry.”

These two have enjoyed each other since their adolescent years, the relationship growing more involved as they age. After a number of years apart due to life also changing and evolving, Indya shows up as the new owner of the family ranch and resort. Their father has sold it all to her, never letting on finances and the like have gone downhill for a while now. West, along with his brother Jax, are taken by surprise and not happy with such an outcome, which leaves them with no say in how the ranch will now be run.

Indya has her reasons for buying the ranch, and she plans to stay only a year, the time she will hopefully get the ranch up and running successfully. She knew from the beginning things would be difficult between her and West, but she’s hopeful he’ll come around. West, of course, doesn’t believe that even for a hot minute. But as we grow along with them in alternating chapters of time between past and present, we can’t help but see how these two are meant to be together, and it’s wonderful to go along on their journey to their hard-won happily ever after.

The emotional onslaught of Indy’s relationship with her father will wring your heart dry when all is revealed there. The whole story pulls at the reader’s emotions and wants and desires – visit Montana, find a cowboy of your own, experience a never-ending love, and hope with all your heart life will give you the time needed to enjoy every aspect it has to offer, no matter what that length of time may be.

If you’ve not read Devney Perry yet, this is the first book of a two-book series, so starting here is a good place to experience her writing. You will come back for more time after time. I can guarantee that, because she’s done the same to me since I read the first of her many stories for a few years now.

Grade: A

Summary:

I met West Haven when I was eight years old. He taught me to play poker when I was nine, and we made paper airplanes together when I was eleven. He kissed me when I was sixteen. He was the best part about my family’s summer vacations to Montana. He was the boy who stole my heart. I was twenty-three when life ripped us apart.

Years later, I’m breaking my vow and returning to the ranch, not as a guest but its new owner. West might want me gone, but even he has to admit the only way to save his family’s legacy is with my help.

It’s not easy working side by side and facing those old memories. But this situation is only temporary. We’re at a crossroads. And as long as I don’t let myself fall in love with West Haven again, maybe this is our chance to put those ghosts to rest. Maybe this time we’ll finally be able to say goodbye.
